Philipp – This is a great idea! And could be our very first “tour” of the Ferrari Drivers Club in 2017!

Here is the link to Ambri where I have been several times: Index

What about January 4th, 2017? Those who have snow tires on their Ferrari will attend with their Ferrari (as I will) an the others could join with their “normal” car.

    Who is in?

    Markus

BTW: Costs are CHF 250. That is very reasonable!

Today, I attended the snow training in Ambri (Ticino) with my 575M. Unfortunately, I was the only one with a F-car. There was not much snow (actually no snow) but they prepared the track especially for us!

When driving home through the Gotthard tunnel the “real” snow training started on “our” side of the Gotthard. Sometimes I was only going 50 or 60 but managed to bring the car back home in one piece.

Best thing was when I wanted to park the car in the garage at home. I had to call my wife to push the car into the garage because it was so slippery.

Great pics Markus and that is one good looking car.

True that we have seen some snow on "our" side of the Gotthard in the last days, but I thought snow chains was mandatory when driving in the Alps in Switzerland?

I hereby fine you CHF 250.00, please go to the next police station and pay up :)

Thank you Villi, that was very kind of you. I just was at the local police station and they gave me a warm welcome. They were fully informed about your “initiative” and I could pay the fine even with the credit card of our Ferrari Drivers Club. You will see it when you receive the bill for the membership 2017 :D:D:D

Nice pics Markus! I guess it was fun in the snow. Looks like your 575 needs a proper cleaning after this trip ;-)

Fantastic Markus. How was the 575 in the snow training compared to the little front wheel drive cars?

I bet it was fun :)

Simon – Yes it was fun! But the wide tires with RWD did not really help. There was one FWD car and the others all had AWD.

We had a contest where you had to drive some kind of slalom track. I started against an Audi SQ5 and lost by about 5 seconds or so. No chance. While my rear wheels tried to get some grip on the icy road at the start the SQ5 was already heading by 10 meters or so.

One guy had a very old Mitsubishi with AWD. The car did not even have ABS. But he had “real” winter tires from Finland. They were really soft and you could move the profile in the tires with your fingers very easily. I am sure they will be gone after 1 000 km or so on a dry road but they were incredible sticky on snow. We had to do a breaking exercise. I approached with 72 km/h and stopped after 100m! The other guy had over 80 and stopped after 70 meters! That was impressive.

Bottom line: It really is fun to drive a Ferrari on snow. But if you want to be fast there are better cars…

I am from Iceland, so I know a little bit about driving in the snow.... the best car to drive in the worst weather conditions is a VW Beatle. It acts as a "sled with an outboard motor". The bottom is flat, engine is in the back, it is rear wheel drive... so it slides over the snow banks like a sledge and goes everywhere :)

No, no, no. You add a Beatle to your collection (or a Karmann Ghia) you never trade in a Ferrari :)

I am actually seriously thinking about a Masa, so need your advise. Looking forward to the next Ferrari Drivers meet up (so I can pick your brain).

Villi – True, never sell a Ferrari but add another car. I saw your other thread in the 360/430 section and will answer your question there. Feel free to shoot me an e-mail if you want to talk about your car plans before we meet next time. We also can have lunch somewhere in Zurich.

Hi guys, I will receive my first Ferrari, a 1994 348tb, by the end of February after it has had its Service and can't wait to take the car I dreamt of as a kid for the first spin :)

I am planning to mount a new exhaust and 200 cell cats to the car and was wondering if anyone of you has experience to share on how to make sure you are still "street legal" after modifications. I imagine a Ferrari will not get pulled over by the police as quickly as a modified BMW or Audi just because it is is kind of "loud" — because you expect that from a sports car.

But still I would appreciate you sharing advise and experiences.

    Thanks!

Chris – Congrats on your new car! I hope it will arrive soon and that the snow will have been disappeared when you take delivery of your new car.

We are a small club called “Ferrari Drivers Club” who are doing some nice drives during the warm months. If you google it, you will find our home page.

We also have a very experienced mechanic in our club who maintains the cars of most of our members (plus a lot of other new and vintage Ferraris). He has lots of experience with 348 and exhausts!

Feel free to send me a PM (also in German language) if you would like have more information about our club and the mechanic.

Welcome Chris. I bet you can't wait to take your 348 for a drive once it arrives. We would love to see some pictures of your car.

    Hi Chris,
welcome here! great to read that you'll get your 348 right for the next season.
MFK/police: the regulations in Switzerland are unfortunately very strict - to be noisy alone can be enough to get a fine. The use of non-approved equipment may have even more severe consequences. Anyway, those are kind of personal decisions... and as Martin said, there is a good mechanic in our club who might give you some advice on MFK-approved tuning products.
and, finally: I'm not sure, whether a Ferrari really needs any tuning...!!!
    cheers

well... that maybe a matter of taste... - one can't say that e.g. the Koenig Specials Ferraris are the most appreciated ones of that period...even if I personally like them!
