If all problems are really sorted out, maybe the best buy. Why should a gated M GT be worth less compared to a Maranello?
Perception. Extremely important in market expectations. 2+2's are usually seen as less exclusive, less sportive and less beautiful - while 2-seaters can be stunning, the 456 is that too to me and I like its (limited) practicalness, so for me this part of the market is irrational. I don't mind. I just regret not picking up a 250GTE when you could still buy them for 30k.
It's been on Cars.com for a while. Several short-term owners and skimpy Carfax - I anticipate quite a bit of deferred maintenance. I suspect thats why it's priced below market. I'd want to see the service history and a very thorough PPI. I think Grigio Ingrid is a nice color on these cars. Hard to tell from their photos, the lighting is very poor, but the color will look much better in person.
In addition to what killer58 mentions, the things that are a bit much IMHO: the assortment of Italian "tri-colore" flags and the "V12" badging (worth an extra 5hp, just ask any lowered Honda owner). Cheers! Ruben
Yes those badges and the weird mldg around the heater controls need to go right away. But I think for a DIY guy like me it could be a fair car for the price. It's still a V12 Ferrari! But there is also this one here in Canada for not much more. Ferrari 456 LOCAL ONT CAR CLEAN CARPROOF 1999 pour 69 910 $ à Vaughan | autoHEBDO.net But more miles.
A V-12 is exactly the worry. If it needs a rebuild, you can erase the word "below" from "market price."
Very similar to mine, although I have 4x the mileage, so I guess mine's worth about the same as a 2012 Prius.
A 2000 with low miles why would it need a rebuilt? Just because the price is lower than others? It could have a better engine than one that cost much more. Buying a used car no matter history or maintenance records is still a gambling. Even if you buy a car fully documented you were not sitting in the car with the owner when he was driving it and may just have beat the s..t out of it everytime he used it. If it start right and run nice with no noise or smoke with good oil pressure it is as safe as any other. Compression check and leak down test and there you go. Why does it need to be expensive to be good?
First, not sure I'm in the right forum, is this for US only? I live in Denmark. Regardless, I'm looking for a 456 GTA, has to be LHD and 1. registration before June 1997, because from that day the local yearly tax increased from high to ridiculous. I can fix cars myself, mechanical and bodywork, so it's OK if it needs a bit of work if the price reflects it. Though the drive-line must be sound. Thanks for any help. My fun car today is a Pantera, but ready to upgrade to V12
456 GTA M 68.000$ http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/ferraris/541148-1999-ferrari-456m-gta-27k-miles-blu-pozzi.html
Correct forum and we have folks from all over the globe. Good luck on finding a 96 or early 97 456 GTA.
Good luck on your search. My last fun car was also a Pantera, a White '72. I now have a 456M GTA. I do miss the gear changes but am extremely happy with the F car. I had the Pantera for 15 years and built a really strong motor for it the only beef I had was that I was never happy with the quality of the interior. Problem solved with the F456.
Very similar to mine, bought spring 2016 for US$48k in San Diego, (about the same as the C$ asking price of the current advert) I have <40k Miles and spent $6k on deferred maintenance after purchase to bring mine current. Hope that helps provide a market price for you.
Two taxes: Registration tax is 180% for a new car, goes to close to zero for a 35 year old car (vintage). A 456 cost new in Denmark DKK 4M=USD 570. Strangely none were sold... Then there's a yearly tax, before 1997 it was based on weight and was about $1200 for this car. From 1997 it's based on fuel mileage, and is $2500 So bot taxes makes it a lot "cheaper" for me to get an early model
Mother of God!!! [emoji33] [emoji33] [emoji33] If I lived in Denmark all I could afford is a 1996 Crown Vic or something like that
Yes, and while my income is in the top 5% in the country, I've only ever once bought a car new, because of the ridiculous taxes
Hi, Sure. None were sold in Finland either. AFAIK at least two were sold new in Sweden where the taxes are lower and there is more Ferrari culture. But those two who bought a one new in the mid-1990's were Per Gässle (Roxette, etc) and Carl XVI Gustaf, the king of Sweden. I don't really care too much as I am not a big fan of modern cars, my next car would preferably be a pre-war car, but not Victorian or that early. My first car was older than I am. And I bought the 456 GT for the reason that I could. To me it represents a classic combination of style and power and is old enough to be DIY friendly but still offers plenty of power and excitement. I keep the car in Germany for many reasons, but plan on importing it to Finland within a year or two. Taxes are high, but for a 1995 car they get lower year by year. My income is pretty bad, but I have always fealt that all the money I have put in my cars has brought me enjoyment worth millions of dollars or euros. "You think I Ain't Worth a Dollar, But I Feel Like a Milloinaire" Rock on! Cheers, Pekka T. Fin.
