I've had the same experience - in the Boxer. I think that pretty much anything with the general shape makes it "Magnum's Ferrari" to most people, including the most horrid of replicas. In all my time spent in Hawaii, I've never seen a 308.
In March 2014 I spotted a 308 in Kihei, Maui - I posted 2 pictures in the thread: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/hawaii/442399-spotted-kihei-308-gtsi.html
I spent Christmas on Oahu, Hawaii in 1985. 308's were everywhere then. I remember you could rent a 308 for $500 per day. I thought that was really expensive at the time. Actually, it still seems high
I didn't start spending serious time in HI until '92, sometimes a month at a time, and almost all of it up on North Shore. Know someone outside of Haleiwa who had a Testarossa at the time (and a Boxer and F40 in CA), saw my first 348 Spider in Honolulu, but can't recall any 308s or 328s. This surprised me at the time, and still does a bit, given the timeframe to the last of the Magnum PI series. I must hang out in the wrong 'hood
Same here. I've had people insist that my 348 is the model from the show. I have a picture of my '83 308 on my phone to show them. . . "See the difference?"
Barrett Jackson has listed the Miami Vice Testarosa in their Scottsdale auction, will be interesting to see how the 'value' of the two TV show cars compare.
