This 1988 BMW M6 is completely stock and in original condition. Zinnoberrot (red) with nature leather. Just under 50k miles. It was bought new in 11/88 by Robert Macfarland from Crevier BMW (Crevier Guild Member sticker still afixed) in Santa Ana, CA and it spent all of its early life in Irvine, CA. He, along with the car moved to Bullhead, AZ in 2003 where it resided until I brought it back to Orange County, CA and added it to my collection a few years ago. Body is perfect, no dents or dings, no accidents, paint is all original, still has original clear plastic where trunk hits rear fenders. Absolutely no rust or corrosion. All original VIN stickers in place. All books, manuals, flashlight, and full toolkit including original red handle screwdrivers and blue bmw cloth. Spare has never been removed from trunk. Extremely rare and hard to find 'BMW' front license bumper filler strip included in sale. Recent service 6/16 included all fluids flushed and replaced, new spark plugs, tie rod assembly's and center, idler arms, and alignment. Compression test Cyl 1: 75-200 Cyl 2: 75-195 Cyl 3: 75-205 Cyl 4: 75-210 Cyl 5: 75-210 Cyl 6: 75-210 Brand new battery installed 11/16. Scratch on right rear corner of rear bumper and nickel sized touch up on left side of rear bumper (See last two pictures). I decided to keep the car original but if you respray the rear bumper the car would be literally flawless. Car drives great and might be one of the best low mileage and original e24's around. Absolutely stunning! Are you open to 3rd party inspections? DERP! My bad. You answered my question in the ad.
Sorry, made ad late last night and forgot to add price. I'm asking $69k. Please don't email or PM me just to let me know it's too high. I have owned many e24s, and this is the nicest one I've had. In fact I have three right now including an 85 European M635csi with 68k miles that I'll probably post for sale as well as soon as my e30 Evo arrives in February from the U.K. For reference I sold my black 88 M6 with 32k miles on it early in 2015 for more than this asking price and that car was not near as nice as this one. Now it looks like the guy I sold it to gave it to CNC motors who is asking $90,000 for it.
I think your pricing is fair and reasonable for a rare car (only 1,767 made) of such quality. How fresh are those TRX tires?
Thanks everyone for the kind words. Only paperwork I have from the prior owner regarding tires is from Big O Tires for three new TRX on June 7th of either 2007 or 2009, I can't tell the year exactly from the handwritten, carbon copy receipt. No dry rot on the tires (except for the spare) and they hold air perfectly.
Saif: The only sure way to determine a tire's age is to read its date code. On the tire, near the rim, there will be a label starting with "DOT"...next to that will a string of numbers and letters. Look for the last four numbers. The first two numbers are the week and the next two numbers are the year of manufacture. So, a tire with a date code of "2511" was produced in June, 2011.
The four-digit DOT coding system described above started in 2000. If the tires have only a three-digit number at the end of the DOT string then they were produced last century! As an aside, when I replaced my newly-acquired 1987 M6's TRX tires this past Spring I discovered that they were the 29-year-old originals! No wonder the handling was a bit squirrelly...
Saif: You may also want to consider listing this magnificent car on www.bigcoupe.com, a free site devoted to these 6-series coupes (similar to FerrariChat, but much, much smaller). Alan
I can't get over how well the interior has held up. I'm assuming it's all original? Good luck with it.
Thanks very much. Yes the interior is all original, down to smell and feel. It's what a 50k interior looks like when thoroughly taken care of by car guys its entire life. The original owner I bought it from had some cool cars, including some hot rods and bikes, a diverse collection and all in top form. Thank you. I looked for a tire date code as you suggested and could not find a 4 or a 3 digit numerical only code. Tires have great tread and no dry rot but are quite hard and should probably be replaced. I can help source some modern BMW Style 5 wheels and fresh tires if buyer would like. Thanks!
