Just seen this great 2002 BBC video posted by Ferrarism on FB about the sale by Pierre Bardinon and subsequent auction of 330 TR Indepenti #0808. Interviews from Phil Hill, Marcel Massini, David Gooding, Robert Brooks, Winston Goodfellow, Simon Kidston, Adrian Hamilton and the buyer Jim Spiro.

Fantastic history, but neither the most original car, as it was rebodied, even if by same people who built it in first place, nor the most elegant, the proportions between width and height are not the best ( my preference is definitely GTO64!).

What is interesting is to see the maturing of classic car dealers/ brokers,,,SK today looks much more cool, AH remained as cool as he always was, Robert still looks like a Chairman, and David looks even more business today! I dealt and bought or sold cars with them all, wonderful crowd. Sparing comments on our old friend MM, who nevertheless looks more relaxed today as well ( Happy New Year Marcel!).

Regarding the event, I was at the Sale in Gstaad that year, am I the only one missing this
event ,,which was much nicer and cosy than Retromobile. And there were deals made aside the auction too, I bought 1385GT in 30 minutes!

Not entirely relevant and probably pedantic but didn't 0808 go through RM Sotheby's at their first auction in Maranello and not Bonhams/Brooks in Gstaad?

    Hi Paul,

0808 was sold by RM Auctions at Monterey in August 2002 when Jim Spiro bought it. Then sold again by RM Auctions in 2007 at Maranello, so no, not Bonhams/Brooks in Gstaad.

Jim Spiro is a member here..

He brought this car to the Ferrari French Quarter Classic, in New Orleans, in 2004.

    It is a cool machine!
    Thanks for the link.

    That Gstaad event was cool.

It was sad to watch them auction the collection of the owner, shot to death over his F40.

That frog green 'glass 308GTB among them.

Here's a video about the 2007 auction. Jim Spiro talks about the car and Phil Hill drives the "dinosaur" that ended up being one of his favourite cars.

It was very unique.....not many of the "twin nostril" cars survived, as Ferrari dismantled all the F1 cars styled in a similar manner.

Phil was quite fond of the 315/335/412MI series.
I guess after the smaller 4s and 6s, he was thinking "They are ON to something!" with the V12 sports racers

    Happy Holidays, Steve.

0808 was sold by Bardinon thru Terry Hoyle and Adrian Hamilton to Rob Myers (RM) on 12 June 2002, for a total of US$ 6 Million (Terry and Adrian got 100 Grand each, Bardinon netted 5.8 M $). RM then sold it 17 August 2002 in Monterey to Jim Spiro for a total of US$ 6'490'000. Spiro consigned it to RM in Maranello 20 May 2007 where it sold for US$ 9'277'000 to J.G.P.C in Argentina.

Also offered at Sothebys rather disastrous 2005 Maranello auction where it didn't see much interest IIRC?

    Great video.

Is it still with JGPC in Argentina Marcel? I remember the only time I saw it at the 60th celebrations at Fiorano in 2007. I don't think it is the prettiest of cars but it is certainly purposeful and I liked it a lot.

It was at the 2008(?) Le Mans Classic with a big roll bar. Someone at Maranello got the wrong idea with the regulations - it looked terrible. They were annoyed when they found out it wasn't needed. It's not an attractive car to start with... the driver was good though.

Thanks for finding the film, I think it's a good record of our hobby.

Just out of curiosity, since its active and winning LM days, has this car ever been rebodied/restored to correct "as raced & won at Le Mans" configuration, including what I assume to be (laminated?) glass windshield insert ?

Pierre Bardinon is said to have had the body restored from the coupe body it had, to Le Mans 1962 configuration by Fantuzzi, which is the body it has now. I haven't seen it with the windshield insert.

Here is a pic at Le Mans 1963.

Nothing saw much interest at the 2005 Maranello auction, the sale was a disaster. Subsequent auction by RM(prior to merger with Sotheby's) was a success.

In its sleekest and most attractive form, imo, at The Canadian Grand Prix for The Pepsi Cola Trophy, Mosport on 22.9.62. Pedro Rodriguez at the wheel. Absolutely awesome!!!!

In my collection of 1182 files on individual important Ferraris between 01C and and the 365 P series cars, these vary between 6 pages to over 400 pagesThe file on 0808 TR is 78 pages plus copies of the Phil Hill R&T article and text from Rick Carey, Marcel Massini,Ed Niles, etienne etc, and of course John Houghtaling and 56 images from its many historical years. All this covers the four different incarnations this car went thru from 1962 until today. What happens next we will know shortly. What a history about the last front engine competition Ferrari. I have a note that part of this car at some point visited Argentina. Is this true? This car had a series of distinguished owners. Lets hope the next one will do more than just let it sit locked up in some major collection. tonga's crew

Was very pleased to experience 0808 during its time in New Orleans. Having it driven to work several days a week in New Orleans, and being garaged about 2 miles from 2819 was really quite something. Here is a photo of 0808, and 2819 together at the French Quarter Classic with my partner in crime Franco Valobra and longtime owner of the breadvan. Later I comissioned Michael Mate to paint two copies of the 62 LeMans race. One hangs in my office and another in the office of my friend JF Bardion.
