I echo Randkin's comment and I am sure you will be fine with the CL65. I also alternate between a CL55 and a 612 as my daily drivers. The CL55 is the most reliable car I have ever owned.

Also, although you don't get the same tight feeling through the corners and twisty roads as with the 612, it is relatively easy to improve the handling of the CL so it comes close. I recently put lighter (and bigger and wider) Brabus wheels on the CL (so it grips better and has a better rebound rate) and lowered the car 1.5 inches (very easy to do with the ABC suspension). So the CL now has a much more connected feeling in the curves. On the straightaways it is as fast as the 612 (and the CL65 is faster).

    So have fun!

    Ron,

Can you send me details on the wheels ? And did you use the RENNtech ELM to lower the car ?

    Thanks

Sure Shiv. I used a combination of Brabus Monoblock VI wheels and Michelin Super Sport tires. The particulars were:

    Front: 255/35ZR19 ET40(offset) 8.5" rim width

    Rear: 275/30ZR19 ET35(offset) 10" rim width

In terms of lowering the car I simply bought some lowering links for $100 off of EBay. They work perfectly with the ABC suspension. For daily driving purposes I was able to lower the car 1.5 inches (putting a significant amount of weight much closer to the ground) but at the same time maintain all of the normal suspension characteristics and ride of the car (which is pretty good in "sport" mode). Also if I came to any bumps I could simply raise the car with a push of a button.

Ron, when you lowered the CL what were the effects on the ride? Also I assume the Brabus wheels are lower profile? My CL is kind of just a highway cruiser and quite comfortable even in "sport" mode where I just leave it. I have a couple other cars for the twisties and that mission so I don’t want to feel every seam in the pavement driving the CL as the roads around here are not all in the best maintained.

I would echo your comment on the reliability of the car, absolutely no problems until over 130k. Then stuff just started to wear out and have had to replace and repair age and wear items as one would expect

Randy, lowering the CL had absolutely no the effect on the ride. That is the beauty of the ABC suspension. It however did dramatically improve the cornering by lowering the weight. It also really improved the appearance of the car.

What changed the ride was going with significantly lower profile and wider tires and wheels and a wider offset (stance). You definitely feel the road more. I personally like it. However the CL has a solution for that too. You just dont drive in "sport" mode and it significantly masks the effect. Best of all worlds.

However, as a point of reference, my wife still far prefers to ride in the CL over the 612 because of the ride (no accounting for taste). So its not like you have gone crazy nuts and have some lowrider bolted on the ground.

Ron - Thanks for the info I will consider. But at 200+k miles not sure how much I want to spend on a car worth at best $10k as I am thinking of replacing that vehicle with the Porsche Mission E if it will be available in late 2017 or early 2018. I really like the CL55 but while it not as expensive to maintain as an Fcar it is not inexpensive either now that major systems are needing to be replaced.

Lol a Honda Civic, because my DD gets smashed heavily by tree sap and bird poo every single day being parked outdoors, and needs to be something I can park and forget

My DD is a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7 Hemi.
But from monday to friday, i go to work with the local train, 30 km for one way without stress and hectic, so this is my real DD.

    Daniel

    P.S.
6 years ago, I changed to train, after the cops filmed me with the Maranello (a little bit to fast) and i have to give off my driving licence for 4 weeks. After this 4 weeks i bought a 1 year ticket, and then again and again.
Thanks cops, saved me much money for fuel and much nerves in the bad daily traffic.

I use this more or less everyday. Same bike as used by the CHP in California and several other police agencies around the world

Best part is people always let me out plus I've had cops with speed guns put them down as soon as they see me and wave me by.

    Great little thing

Edit: If only I could figure out how to rotate the pic
