You know that the bearing sitting behind the little horsey on the pumpkin costs $1000 ? Ask me how I know
I need one of those as my thrust bearing is gone and leaking brake fluid. I have to buy the HE flange as well as I have the early 95 shaft. So Flange bearing and seal comes to around that price from Super Performance.:-(
F430 market must be overpriced as many cars keep dropping their prices: https://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/details/Ferrari-F430-2006/OAG-AD-13940367/?Cr=2 $5k less https://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/details/Ferrari-F430-2008/OAG-AD-14005550/?Cr=5 $13k less https://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Ferrari-F430-2009/SSE-AD-4237903/?Cr=12 $9k https://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Ferrari-F430-2008/SSE-AD-4312412/?Cr=11 $9k
Same. It seems to me the DSG in the 458 has completed outclassed the F1 and thus has killed the F430 market.
It's got nothing to do with DSG. It's simply the fact that the 458 was the first V8 Ferrari that looks almost as good as a 355. 360/430 prices will recover somewhat - and I think "now" for 360 (12 months ago even better) and the next two years for 430 - will be the best time to buy if they appeal to you. Great cars at good money. But 355 & 458 will be seen as the most desirable non-turbo V8 Ferraris into the future.
Hey all Possibly in the market for a ferrari in the near future. Sydney based. Looking for something that's not likely to drop like a stone. Love 458's but believe they still have a fair way to drop? From that point of view, what do people Reckon to the 599GTB. There's a red one sale Up for $349,990, and also the F430? Thanks
Every manual 360 for sale at the moment is a variant of silver... (well not counting that abortion of a limo). Didn't know there was that many out there! https://www.carsales.com.au/car/ferrari/360/manual-transmission/?sortby=LastUpdated&WT.seg_4=AutoAlert%3BPCAA&sdmvc=1&utm_campaign=bau&utm_medium=email&utm_source=transact&utm_content=autoalert&wt.z_driver=Email_SearchAlert
Not sure what you're smoking, looks are subjective for all models, especially 348 and later. The reason why the 430 market is non existent at the prices listed on car sales is that no one wants them. 360 and 430 prices will never "Recover" as they are so common. Pending someone disgruntled buyer burning the factory down and creating an active used market for late models. The DSG in the 458 has to be a very strong selling point on the used market. With the automated F1 transmissions of the earlier models being very expensive to maintain with regards to the clutch wear, as 458s drop, it will push the 360/430 market down further. Additionally, within 2 years, all the back orders for the 488 will be satisfied and all the 458s will begin their downward spiral as others have done for 40 years beforehand. The 355 will be relegated to the unreliable and fragile HOS that is it, but hopefully by the time your 6th. engine rebuild occurs, you'll be able to perform a cost effective E.V. conversion.
Then just buy what makes you happy and be done with it. My uninformed and layman's understanding of the market suggests that the three models you suggest will continue their downhill pricing tumble. You are probably reasonably safe in a 458 until the 488s come dribbling through. The question you need to ask yourself is how long you plan to keep the car. I also don't see any of those models being very liquid either so if you plan to keep the car for say two years, you'll take a hit. Keep one for 20 years and the opportunity cost of the money would have swallowed up any difference in resale and you would have spent half the value of the car on maintenance anyway!
Welcome to the forum. Don't buy a 458 unless you want to burn $100K within the next 2-3 years. 599 is a great car. I love the look of them. 430 will be good buying in a few years time too. At the end of the day, buy the car you want and enjoy it mate. As Carl just mentioned, don't purchase any modern Ferrari if you are worried about resale because you won't come out a winner.
Thanks Carl & Pap I accept I'll take a hit on more or less any sports car I purchase, ask me how I know lol. Depreciation is inevitable, and although its nowhere near my main concern, is also a factor for me amongst other things so I can factor it into the total ownership cost. If I can minimise it somewhat then thats great, but will never skimp on running/maintenance costs etc. My 911 Turbo/Aston Martin have had no expense spared running cost wise.
Too easy mate, perhaps take them all for a drive and decide which you like best on the day. They are all different animals. I have driven them all and REALLY loved the 458 and drove the 599 once in the US 10 years ago it was pretty wicked also. Be sure to let us know how you go, good luck with it all.
I had a passenger ride in a 458 spider a few days ago and LOVED it too! Had a short drive of a 599 too yesterday and although I didn't have the proper roads to open her up on, the V12 did sound rather spectacular! The only problem here in Aus is that it seems theres always such limited choice when it comes to buying, as there always seems to be so few examples (of almost anything exotic I look at) on the market.
Great to hear man. Yeah, that V12 Ferrari sounds amazing. We don't have many colour options here in Aus compared to the US and UK, so you will probably end up buying a colour combo that you don't really want lol.
What will be the cost of repairing/replacing these DCT boxes when they start lunching themselves as they age ? The older F1 systems have been worked out pretty well now, actuators can be rebuilt for a fraction of the cost of new ones, running later model/stradale TCU's in 360 have sorted most of the clutch wear issues. Replacement pumps are cheap etc. I'd be more concerned about a 458 DCT packing it in that is out of warranty, compared to the F1 in my 360. Weren't the getrags in the early 2010 458s problematic with most being replaced at $40k rather than being repaired ? Found this thread interesting, if I need parts for my F1 I'll visit a Chery dealer. lol http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/360-430-sponsored-yellow-compass-group/515154-interesting-finding-f1-system.html
I don't think you'd fix one. Like any serious 360/430 transmission issues, you'd just buy a used 458 unit out of the USA. There will be so many of these cars around in pieces in a few years, they've made massive quantities, good used components won't be an issue. Of all the 360/430 people I've spoken to, I know of only two cars that have experienced serious transmission issues to the point of having to buy a new unit. One was run low on oil and therefore the owners responsibility (Forgot to tighten the oil drain plug) and one failed under warranty (not sure what the problem was).
What do you mean "especially 348 and later"? You were right when you said looks are subjective for ALL Ferraris. There's no "especially" about it. I love some of the early cars but think others are butt ugly, including some that are supposedly among the best looking cars ever made. I don't know whether 360 / 430s are "very expensive to maintain" re clutch wear, but changing the clutch on a 355 is pretty damn easy. My car is still on its original clutch nearly 20 years and 45,000km after it came out of the factory. I imagine that level of wear compares just fine with the manual cars. Of course, if people don't know how to drive the F1 properly it will wear a lot quicker, but you could say the same about any consumable part of the car (tyres, brakes etc.) My observation re future values is that every prediction made by "experts" in this section of this website has proven to be absolutely, 100% wrong. Almost every popular model of Ferrari bottoms out at some point and then shows slow and steady growth, or at worst just bobbles along. It is an absolute fact that in some cases like the 308 (and 355 in the UK) the growth is not exactly slow and steady either. I reckon the 360 bottomed out a year or two ago, and the 430 may well do the same in another year or two. Totally agree with that.
