Every year for the past 15 years or so they play the same tune, change of colour! Always we think/hope the car will be in papaya orange again, but come Melbourne, they're always some form of grey.

This year is no different, another year another tease of ''we shall change colours''. Now with someone new at the helm...could they actually do it?

As long as it's proper orange I'm all for it.

Is it because orange was the colour of early McLarens, or because it's the Netherlands' official colour?

Netherlands has the grand total of zero to do with Mclaren so that'd be pointless.

Apart from my nationality being Dutch I have zero to do with that country, the only reason I go there occasionally is to visit friends. Overregulated ****hole full of ****y people who pretend they're extremely tolerant, but that couldn't be further from the truth. If it wasn't for my friends I'd never return.

    Interesting ...

OK, so it's definitely to return to the early McLaren livery.

In F1 they weren't too successful in that colour, but in CanAm ...

Perhaps I'm alone in this (perhaps not) but I thought the black livery with red numerals
    was outstanding.

It may not have played well on TV but the still images of the black McLarens was striking
    and different.

Purists say that McLarens were not orange (Netherlands´racing color) but "papaya". Anyway, their new boss and marketing guru said that the new livery is not going to be "retro", so I suppose they won´t use "papaya".

I think that, if they don´t have a sponsor and don´t want to use their original (and authentic!) color, they should stick to black. It looks reasonably good and why make unnecessary changes?

Alonso keeps posting different color options on his facebook page. I think they might actually do it this year with Ron out of the way

Hahahaha. I enjoyed visiting the Netherlands...but vacations are a far cry from reality. Always have fun in California also...just have to plug ones ears when someone gets on their soapbox at the table next to you at a restaurant...or hit them in the head with a dinner roll.

Ron is gone so maybe there will some color back in McLaren again. :)

I think it would be great if they put on their McLaren metallic orange somewhere.

Agreed - I bet they change colors. It's Zak Brown now...background in marketing.

In previous years, it was suggested to Ron Dennis about McLaren going back to an orange livery, and his response was along the lines of: "McLaren are a team and company that is always pushing forwards, so why would we take a backwards step by going back to an old colour just because a few people like the colour?".

As I see it, this is another case of the owners and CEO of McLaren stamping their mark on the team/company, to show that the Ron Dennis era is over.

The original orange color would be great. Alas, it always comes down to the sponsors.

Could it be that McLaren are thinking: "If we're going to perform like mid-pack mediocrity then we might as well look like mid-pack mediocrity!" and are using this as their inspiration? :p :

It does. Maca don't have the guts to go orange or papaya or anything other than 'oh look how intimidating we are' black. Besides the marketing department will kill all cool ideas anyway. Even the Scuderia are victim to marketing idiocy with having the traditional shields where they should be and then another unnecessary rediculous looking set of shields on the stupid logo on the air box. Lame. All lame. Formulame 1.

I disagree - in 1968, Hulme contended for the title right up until the last race. Both Bruce and Denny won GPs in orange cars.
