I'm at Barrett Jackson and this thing hammered for 395k. Are you kidding me. It's been in an accident. Some serious drink folks here tonight to bid on that. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I saw that car at SEMA a few years ago, when it was a different color. Hard to excited about a pimped 458. Yuck. I wonder how much weight all that bolt-on crap added to it. Direct quote from him regarding the condition of the car, pre-auction: "This thing has been through the ringer." That kid is a complete idiot. Correct, I am not a Belieber.
It sold for 560k, with buyer's commission, 616K. CGT is a car that I would never purchase at an auction. Mileage is less of an issue, but proper owner's history and maintenance records is a must. It is a car that needs a thorough inspection and PPI done by CGT specialists.
Accident, Horrible interior, liberty walk, Bieber owned. Do we know who the new owner is? Maybe a spoiled daughter demanded it...
He ended up throwing in a pair of concert tickets with backstage passes, as the bidding drew to an end. That alone should have reduced the price by at least 20 grand.
Can anyone honestly say that a deal can be had at any televised, hoopla'd auction. I've been to 2 and everything I was interested went beyond what I thought the values were...
the kit itself is 25K, add in paint, wheels...you're looking at 40K. Could've bought a normal 458 for ~150. My guess is also spoiled daughter with bieber fetish insisted on it.
The car started out white and the blue is a wrap. No way to know the condition of what's underneath. I don't understand the value of this car except its ownership by Bieber. Good luck with that. In an eventual collector market that historically has been all about originality, this is anything but.
Living in Scottsdale, literally less than a mile from where Barrett is held, I go every year and I agree with you that many cars are inflated. However, this year, lots of cars were going well below for what I thought they would. Barrett is a s*it how usually with a bunch of hyped up muscle cars. If I see another classic corvette, I'm gonna puke. It seems like every single person shows up eight one to sell. However if you get the chance, check out gooding, bonhams, and rm auctions. All held I. Scottsdale during car week. Much better selection of cars. Much nicer atmosphere. Much nicer vibe.
I would agree. The cars were horrible. It seems that most high end owners were selling at the other smaller auctions.
Agree 1000%. Back in the early 1980's, when I started going, it was actually a great event. It was CAR GUYS, and there were quality cars. It all changed when they started televising it. That's when the car guys stopped going, and the show-off heavy-drinking idiots started going. The quality of vehicles dropped off accordingly. I stopped going the second year it was televised and haven't returned since. Having Justin Bieber at this event these days seems just about right for what it has all become.
West Coast Customs sure butchered that car. I could not believe that hammer price. What an abomination! And they disclosed right away is has a CarFax issue being involved in a rear end accident. What if the CarFax was clean? $500K? Complete joke bid up by the hype of a Saturday night at BJ.
I believe sale price was a scam - probably bid up for publicity and purchased by a phone bidder named Mayweather.
I was thinking the same thing. Bieber had his buddies bid on the car, paid the back for it. It cost him 10% in commissions. Best marketing money can buy for this guy. I can't believe an actual car enthusiast actually paid that much for the car. I saw it In person. It was hideous.
