That area gets a constant on-shore salt air breeze. It just destroys anything made of metal, including house wiring, appliances, etc. Not really a good place to keep a Ferrari.
I hang out in the tidal pool a lot, the house is very run down, the heir to COX Communications owned it before, talk in the neighborhood is Obama will be moving in. When they filmed Magnum PI they used 2 houses, one for the exterior shots (the house this thread is about) and there was another house for interior shots, there is no guest house on the property, just a small boat house. EDIT: and the concrete dock a little further down was what they used to film TC's Island Hoppers business location, I think it is a state owned research dock now?
Also fun to visit the King Kameamea Club (one location at least.) Still recognizable although I wish they would have kept the brilliant Killingsworth design. Was the Hilton, now the Kahala.
Can anyone here tell me the coordinates of the Robin's nest so that I can find and see it with Google Earth? Thank you very much Ciao
On top of those cliffs, is a launch pad for hang gliders. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Rju_zxI_co
Obama was on Jerry Seinfeld's "Comedians in Cars getting Coffee" web series. He talked about admiring some cars as a young man but I don't think he's particularly a car guy, at least not how anyone here would think of it. I've never heard of him having any interest in Ferrari's or any other foreign cars. I'm 99.9% sure he's never owned any Ferrari. Biden is a car guy and a speed guy, and has a '67 Corvette Stingray Convertible that's he's the original owner of. He says he has pegged the speedometer on it several times! Jay Leno's Garage did a feature on Biden and his car, which also featured general Colin Powell, who is friends with Biden and also a car guy.
I visited the estate in 2007 and while I thought it was the greatest thing to actually be there and see it in person and get to hang out in the tidal pool all afternoon it was in very bad shape had tarps on the roof of the main house and just appeared to be rundown. Hopefully the new owners will fix it up. There is a big gate house there that they never used in the T.V. show which I wondered why they didn't use that instead of the boathouse that they used for exterior shots. Also the boathouse is right on the other side of the fence by the tidal pool in the series they always made it seem like the guest house was behind the main house.
As an ex-POTUS, he will never drive a car on a public road again. It is as simple as that, USSS will never allow it. He totally messed up traffic in Kailua this year, and brought Lanikai to a stand still for hours when he played golf at Mid-Pac. Couldn't leave our house for an hour when he came or went. The interiors were filmed on the sound stage at Diamond Head. "Island Hoppers" pier is the Makai Research Pier, owned by the Research Corporation of the University of Hawaii. You can read about the commercial side of their work here Makai Ocean Engineering | Makai Ocean Engineering, Inc., located on Oahu, Hawaii is involved in ocean renewable energy, submarine cable software and scientific visualization. The software division develops applications to aid in the deployment of sub The gate house was used, I believe, for certain exterior angles/shots as the guest house along with the boat house. But, I haven't been on the estate since 1992, did drive by last month though to show the kids.
If it's really been run down that long it will be obvious if someone is moving in. There will be a lot of activity. In that climate it will be a big job. I hope for the neighbors sake he isn't headed there. Daily life will be very difficult when he is around.
Not too many neighbors on that section of the road/Hwy. As an Ex-President, there won't be too much of an issue. No motorcades, just a two car formation, unless another sitting World Leader comes to visit. But last month there had been no obvious work going on. Such beautiful potential though.
Friends of ours were neighbours of George dubbya in Waco. Whenever they came within a mile or so of their ranch, the phone would ring - Secret Service, just checking up.
Obama might be a bit too tall for a 308. Listed as 6'1", so he may end up doing the Magnum thing, which was looking at the roof line while driving. Depends a lot on whether his height is in his legs or torso. Long legs/short torso works best in these cars, but is still kinda cramped.
