Sounds like great news, that must have been one hell of a search. Hopefully it will be returned in the same way you last driven it.

    Great news!
Which was the neighbour country you are talking about?
I hope some thieves gain a learning effect about stealing such kind of cars.
And not only the seller has now nothing. I don't know, whether it's EU-law, but at least in Germany 'handling of stolen goods' is a criminal act. And as a start it's irrelevant, whether the fence is aware of the theft or not.

It's really incredible that your car wasn't disassembled and sold as spare. I think those thieves are perfect idiots!!
But did your car still has its original VIN or, at least, did they change it?
This story is really incredible: found for sale not far from you!
Modern thieves look to be less intelligent than the old ones.
Hope they will spend some years in jail

    ciao

When a stolen car is found (in B) it isnt so easy to claim it back. First there have to be proof the seller did know it whas stolen when bought the car...justice often give the seller credit for it and gets the car back after investigation. Its the thief that is responsable and will (must) be prossecuted. In the mean while that car stays confiscated...
I hope also there is proof the seller did know it whas stolen so that car goes back to the real owner.

I'm surprised, that Belgium so much differs in its legislation from the neighbour EU-countries.
In Germany the real owner always gets back his found goods. The best thing, what can happen to the last seller, is that he can proof 'acquisition in good faith' and therefore avoid getting fined.
Nevertheless as a start he will go away empty-handed and has to try to get his money back from those who sold him the car.

Thanks for all the support guys!
I want to be slightly careful sharing too much information, but I can say that my car has been 'renumbered'. The seller may or may not have acted in good faith, not for me to judge online. I will share more in due time. Thanks for your understanding!
At this time, what matters most to me is the fact that after 14 months, I now know that my car is still alive. Yes, technically it belongs to my insurance company, but I went well out of my way to find it back for them. I hope that effort will somehow pay off.
    Thanks again!

Just the VIN or all the component numbers you posted? Wonder if the thieves chose a new number that duplicates an existing car?

Glad your nightmare is approaching closure.

Congratulations Mick ! Hope you can make a fair deal with the insurance company. Don't know how those things/deals go, no experience with it, hope that it stays that way. I guess/hope having the whole case carefully documentated won't harm the (future) value of the car.

As others already said: what are the chances of finding the car back in one piece, instead of it beïng dismantled for parts..

If I ever encounter a black GTB in NL I'll flash my high-beam ! :)

I think you guys are missing something. The car belongs to the insurance company. They will most likely be declared the rightful owners. Insurance company will sell the car at fair market value. The only way the poster will take possession is by bidding like everyone else. When you accept a payout you are essentially selling ownership to the insurance company.

Maybe so in your country my friend.
Here, if the owner of the car indicates that he wants to reserve first right to buy back the car(consider it a prenuptial agreement) he will have the opportunity and privilege to do so, in most cases.
Let's see how this all plays out, and let's refrain from making statements that pertain only to the area where you live.
Thanks for your understanding. This has all been a painful experience.

I would hope that 8 valve is in the best position given the circumstances - at the very least it sounds like without his vigilance this situation may never have arisen.

I want to add that factually you are right. However, the insurance company might put the car up for sale at a public auction to determine value. Then, as previous owner , you may be given the right to buy the car for the highest bid PLUS 1 euro.
    We'll see what happens..:)
    Thanks.

I think we are in agreement. I hope you are successful in obtaining ownership but as things currently stand, it's owned by the insurance company.

I think in the U.S. when a vin # has been altered when the car is found they issue a reassigned vin number and put it in the door jam. I doubt it would be a Ferarri number.
Cars with those numbers are worth much less here no matter what make it is.
I'm a car dealer here in Florida for 30 years and that's the way it works.

Congratulations on at least tracking it down Mick. I have my fingers crossed that reclaiming it won't be too expensive or stressful. Good luck and looking forward to hearing about its successful return to you.
