No 8 in above diagram is a security screw that holds the steering lock plunger and ignition lock assy in to the steering columb. When this screw is done up at the factoery the head breaks off as a security measure. After it breaks off it leaves a mushroom head on top of the screw. Using a Dremel with a thin cutoff wheel, cut a slot in the mushroom head and then use a slotted screwdriver to remove the screw.
Remove steering lock plunger and ignition lock assy and take to locksmith.

Just an afterthought, would it be as easy, if the steering is locked? i.e. the plunger is out.

    Regards, Alberto

I had made some repro Neiman key blanks earlier with better material so people can use them without worry of the originals being lost/damaged. Keep your originals safe.

See post #115 to see who to contact if you need one. Ok I'm lazy, please contact i-velocita as I sold all to him.

I purchased (2) of the repro Neiman keys off of eBay and had them cut. Neither one works...I can't even get the tip of the key into the ignition. Upon very close examination, it seems that the depth of the key blank groove (on the Made in Germany side) is shallower than my non-original but fully functional Taylor key. Since I can't even get the tip of the key in, it doesn't appear to have anything to do with the `cut'.

I should point out that I've had great success with my key `cutter' for other classic car key dupes I've had him cut. He was even able to repurpose a few really old (already cut) Huff keys for my 57 BMW so I could have original backups.

Has anyone else experienced this kind of problem? I tried to make very sure that I purchased the correct version.

...and yes, I did post this on the 308-328 Neiman thread, but wanted to hear from Dino owners who may have purchased the keys and their experience using them.

    Ron,
Try Keys for Classics, specialists in code-cut keys for classic cars and motorcycles
Stuart will take a photo of your key, scan the original code and cut the key to the code for a test run.
If that works, get the expensive original blank key cut. He will let you know if it isn't right.
He's in Australia but does worldwide. Had multiple car makes done and spot on.
If it doesn't work now, just send pix of what you have. I'm sure he can sort out the problem.
    Regards, Andrew

Not sure you understand the situation...I don't have an original Neiman key blank, only a repro. And I think that's where my Silca blank came from...maybe the blanks for my door key backups too (it was several years ago).

The specifics of this saga have been covered in the 308-328 thread. I discovered there's a huge variation of dimensions amongst Neiman (repros and originals...variations in originals likely caused by varying wear) and various other brands of compatible key blanks. It's boiled down to the Neiman repro has a much narrower groove than all the others (including a different Neiman repro I just acquired). But the problem may have been resolved (for me) by an ever so slight widening of that groove and removing tiny little burrs I had not noticed before.
