Saw a documentary this evening about this legendary French actor, singer and womanizer.
His grandson mentioned in an interview that "...when he drove a car he drove a Ferrari..."

Does anybody know which car(s) he owned?

Interview of him and Francoise Hardy at the Charade circuit during filming of Grand Prix, in French, he relates how he drives his Ferrari road car while sitting in a Ferrari F1, very cool little find:)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5FvUbwREuA

for English only speakers here he is on Letterman late 80's:) Haven't watched it so not sure if he talks about F road cars...he speaks about his affair with Marilyn though apparently.

Nice plates (not "nice" I mean the city, Nice, Nizza) and a vanity/make-up mirror on the passenger side sun visor. (Did they all have one originally?)

I am the author of this article. It was said to belong to Yves Montand but I haven't been able to find the serial number or further information that would confirm it.

If you want to understand what french soul is, you have to hear his song " a bicyclette" with a good translation.
Ps ( primary name of yves montand was ivo livi, an italian immigrant..)

His parents emigrated in France when he was two years old. Now, if we want to talk about him: he always was a rather controversial figure here. Some worshipped him, some were rather critical.
From one hand, due to the fact that he always stated openly his political convictions: his father was supporting communism, and Yves Montand himself was a sympathiser of communism and of the communist party for a rather long time (although never officially a member of the party). It was not unusual for people working in the entertainment business or artists here, but nevertheless rather contradictory with his own incomes. Furthermore, it took him many years to admit that he should not have supported stalinism as stubbornly as he did; then on his later years, he became a "Liberal", but in the french sense of this expression, which is the reverse of what it means in the US, so he openly supported capitalism.
From the other, due to his complex love life and numerous affairs, which were still debated for many years after his death in court with research for paternity, DNA analysis, etc...rumors about his behaviour with his daughter, etc...
    A controversial figure.

Yes, he was controversal - like many other artist.

Great artist are never like the rest of us mortals - and that make them great.

Better a communistic Yves Montand than the entire Kardashian pack!

    Ciao!

Well I must say that I don't know much about the Kardashians, other than the agression in Paris has been quickly explained last week by the Police here, and the culprits charged: a team of old men (the leader was above 60) that took advantage of her incredible habit to tell eveyone on the social media what she was doing and what she would have as for jewels; the guy said that never has a hike ben so easy to plan for...
A - relevant - anecdote about Montand was that for the movie "Grand Prix" he scared himself so stiff trying to drive the car that his has to be towed almost the whole time; on the other hand, James Gardner was so good at the wheel, he was like the proverbial duck to the water...

My recollection of your story from Grand Prix was that Antonio Sabato was the one who was towed around the circuits. I think that this was from Phil Hill, apparently Sabato was piece of work and not well liked by the cast and crew. Also Brian Bedford did not have a drivers license.

    I agree with you.

I have many songs of Yves in my music repertoire and all I can say I'm both a fan of his movies and wonderful singing...

Yves Montand also dated Marilyn Monroe ;-)
