I'm in the market for a 430 or 360. I have no sat in or driven either. Does anyone have some time to let me look at their car? And where can I get test drives? Does anyone still drive these in the winter? I want to see about driving position, feel, gauges, etc. between the two models. Thank you, Jason
Get a 458, more expensive, but reliable like a tank. 430 is cheaper now, but then after sometimes, the repair and clutch will get you close to 458. Haven't considered it's more beautiful, screams higher. Basically it's one of the best Ferrari ever made.
At the end of the day these are not cheap cars to properly own and maintain. Get the best one you can and budget for a few thousand a year in maintenance and repairs. The 430 does not have a timing belt so that is one less cost. Avoid cc brakes on the 430 as they wear out and are expensive (first gen cc brakes). And start reading... scour this site for info.
Ok I decided to skip the 360. Looking for red tan Berlinetta F1 with sport or Daytona seats, preferably no carbon brakes, don't care about shields either way.
Make sure you check properly, this car doesn't come cheap when sent to workshop, even just for a simple oil change. I never owned a 430, but I heard the clutch will wear out after sometime. 360 even worse, there's a timing belt issue instead of clutch. If it's not too much difference, another thing to consider is the new 991.2 GT3. This one is offered with manual stick. New car's smell with warranty, sounds like 458 because it screams to 9,000 too, will tailgate 488 on a track, and when you sell it later, maximum you will only lose the tax. You can even make some money if she is a garage queen. But 430 or even 360 looks much better than this Beetle. I think low spec without ceramic and race seat will be around 170k.
I.T Guy: It really is all in how the F1 gearbox has been maintained and is driven.... From my experience, I've gotten both good and bad experiences with F1 type gearboxes. As someone said above, get the best car at the maximum you'll spend between the 360 and 430. Find a car with history and good service records, then have it again checked out by a secondary to your satisfaction. There are a ton of sources for good information on this site alone, and a couple good 360/430's on Autotrader at this moment. Maybe give us some insight on what you may want to spend, and I'm sure someone can assist you better.
So who's the dude to trust around here and find me one? Or I just hunt and hunt? Edit FOO has a grey 2007 a white 360 a baby blue 360 Autototrader has some - nothing red/tan so far
Ferrari Quebec has a red tan 430. Is Quebec safe? Isn't that where all the weird low priced cars come from?
F430, is rock solid took delivery of my new 07 -Jan 10,2008 other than regular annual service about 800.00 yearly, same as a my Maserati was. Make sure recalls have been done, clutch has not been a problem so after 9 years its at 80%. FoQ are an excellent dealership, I have an original Luigi 328 GTS car from back there no issues. Lots of excellent F430 around for sale. Good Luck
Exactly... Keep up with your services and you should be fine. Although expect to pay on the high side per hour and for oil changes and such. $150,000 can get you some really nice examples of 430's. Wait out for the right one to come through. Ferrari of Quebec has a pretty good rep, just be weary of their emissions rules being different. On Autotrader: There is an 05 coupe at FoQ with Scud wheels for a little over 150. 2005 Ferrari 430 Coupe F1 for $154,900 in Montréal | autoTRADER.ca A 05 Spider for 139 at Daytona. 2005 Ferrari 430 Spider for $139,900 in Woodbridge | autoTRADER.ca Or if you want one of the final years of the 360, here is a great example and a manual as well. If looking at the 360, I'd prefer the manual. It will have longevity value and be more reliable. As well, I have a great friend who works at MVL and he can set you up nicely with this car. I just got a carproof and inspection report on a 2007 red/tan that is $159 and sounded awesome. Oof, 6 owners, loose balljoints, curb rash everywhere, oil mist underneath, not dealer serviced since 2010. For the same price as one at FOO that is also $159 new ballpoints new clutch major done... but interior is wrong for me... I can see this is going to take a while Jason
The worst mistake you can make is jumping into something just because you want it now. The right car will pop up when the time is right.
The 430 of 2005 and 2006 had the CCM brakes as an option. For 2007 the CCM brakes were standard. Beware of the standard 430 wheels as they don't like potholes. FORZA magazine #119 August 2012 featured the F430 buyer's guide. Lots of useful information there to. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Actually Jason, the search is also part of the joy. Just saying. So enjoy the test drives and after each inspection you get better and better at identifying what you really need to look for before that first ppi
