There had been some thought given to Waikiki but most coming from the Mainland wanted to get out of the congestion and the initial feedback was any of the local Ferrari owners weren't too interested in bringing the car to Waikiki.

Turtle Bay is offering us VIP self parking in the front for anyone bringing their F-Car to the events, room for the dealer to put up a car display and free access to their facilities if we want to set up any kind of Concorso or car show.

The hope on doing a show is that the local guys would be interested in bringing out their cars Sunday morning for a couple of hours for a display on the lawn of the Hotel. If that's not the case, it would be better to know now. We hope to be working with JN Exotics in promoting and supporting not only the show but all the weekend events.

Turtle Bay is a pretty spot. It would be nice to have access to a hose. Most of us will be driving some 40 miles over some country roads to get there. Unless the cars are trailered, they're likely to get dirty by the time they arrive.

I just talked to an old racing buddy at the Lunch Bunch on Monday, who owns a red F355. He said he would be happy to bring his car to the Concorso, so that's 2! He said that the Ferrari owners on Oahu did used to have get togethers, but they haven't done it for some time. I have another friend with a Boxer, and a P4 replica, but he keeps them in Cali.

In order to contact the owners on Oahu, I would start with the Ferrari club members. And whatever list the dealer has. Plus the dealer salespeople are pretty keen on who owns what. The Lunch Bunch has a big mailing list. And there's the Pacific Supercar Club, which likely has some Ferrari owners.

If you want a really big 100+ car count, you could open it up to all Italian cars.

Probably the best car show I've seen on Oahu was the NEX show in 2006, which included many racing cars, and even some Ferraris. I would post pics of that, and more Hawaii Ferraris, but I've run into my bandwidth limit.

Turtle Bay is a great place, my sister is going on a retreat there this weekend. A Concours out there would be a fantastic location. However, there are some things going against it because of its location. 1.) As spicedriver said, it is a rather long drive for us, and that drive will get the cars dirty. 2.) If participants stay the weekend, their cars are subject to lots of salt air. You will need facilities to prep the cars. 3.) At the beginning of March, we still have winter swells. IF there is a swell that weekend, there will be gridlock coming from Haleiwa.

On the North Shore the weather is always going to be a factor. Spoke with Turtle Bay yesterday and we may be looking to limit this to around 40-50 cars max. Preference would be for Ferrari's only but I don't know if we can get that many so we may have to open it up to other exotics. If this continues to develop, I can ask if they have an area that could be used for a rinse off and easy detail.

We currently have only 8 FCA members (at least from the SW Chapter) in Hawaii so we will be relying on JN and the local car guys to help promote. Its all still a work in progress.

My sister just got back from her stay at the Ocean Villas. She loved it there, but her car got really, really filthy. You will definitely need cleaning facilities there.

Cleaning a must. I personally will attend with my F355 as long as it is road worthy. It is a great drive up there. There has to be something else great we can pull off, not sure what at this point. Waves could be huge up there in March. All depends on the swell. This past February there were recorded waves in Waimea of 68 foot front faces. That is about a 7 story building. I love the north shore. I would live there if I could make money there.

Things have evolved some from the last communication. Due to the uncertainty of the weather in March, holding a concorso at Turtle Bay looked to be a risky proposition so that is out. Schedule for the events will be the following:

Friday, March 3rd Opening Welcome Dinner at the new Roy's Beach House at Turtle Bay.
Saturday Morning - Drivers Breakfast at Turtle Bay
Saturday Mid Morning - Afternoon -Island Drive From Turtle Bay ending up with a lunch and tour at JN Exotics.
    Saturday Evening - Luau
Sunday Morning - Drivers Breakfast at Turtle Bay.
Sunday Mid Morning - Afternoon - Island drive to Pearl Harbor with Memorial tour.
Sunday Dinner - Dinner "on your own" with new friends. (Possibly open for a "locals" staged event if there is any interest in doing so)
Monday Morning - Farewell Breakfast at Turtle Bay.

All of the events, except the Luau, are open to any exotic car owners. Luau is Ferrari owners only (Non-FCA members welcome). Island participants are welcome to sign up for any of the activities and any number of days at the hotel at our discounted rate. VIP parking has been arranged for exotics at Turtle Bay for the activities.

If you are interested, please PM me with your email and contact information and we will send you a registration sheet and pricing. Space is limited for some of the events so sign up ASAP!

Here's your chance to meet and mingle with other Ferrari enthusiasts and to have photos of the Hawaii Island Ferraris in the Sempre and Prancing Horse magazines.

Looking forward to seeing you all in March!

If you are interested in registering for any of the events, please PM me with your email so I can send the schedule and registration from to you. I've sent a few out but I don't have a lot of emails.

This is open to FCA Members, all Ferrari owners and most other exotic owners.

Looking forward to seeing you all in March.

HA! 24 hours of parking there can leave a real nice layer of salt on your car and then when it mixes with helicopter fuel mist from the operation adjacent to the parking lot it can be a real mess to clean off!

This event seems to have lost momentum. After a good initial response, the current response seems to be lackluster. Do we have any interest here? Deadlines are upon us and these has been very little in the way of local members signing up for anything.

I am still interested in participating in the drives and possibly the Saturday and Sunday breakfasts. No interest in a hotel room. Agree that Turtle Bay is not the optimum place to park a car overnight.

Regrettably it is looking like the FCA event will be cancelled. Initial responses regarding the event were very high but those have not turned in to actual sign ups for events. There is a difficulty in attempting to set up an event for both locals and those on the mainland. Moving forward at this point would cause the Club to incur financial liabilities which it does not seem likely that the attendance will cover. A final decision will be made in the next 24 hours.

To attract those coming from the mainland, we needed to schedule some "tourist" type events which hold little interest to the locals. Additionally, as a Car Club, having an event where most of the attendees would not have their cars proved to be a factor which I believe resulted in a low sign up from those coming from the mainland. The Hawaii vacation aspect just wasn't enough incentive.

FCA-SW currently has only 12 or so members in the Islands so we had a limited base to start from. The hope was that there would be enough interest from both members and non-members to get something organized and possibly attract new members. The weather (possibly questionable in early March), the difficulty in coordinating events from Los Angeles, events lacking local interest, as well as several other reasons may have contributed to the low sign up on the Hawaii end.

If the decision is made to cancel, those of you that had sent in payment will receive a full refund and we will know more by tomorrow.

If the event is cancelled, I would still like to encourage the FCA members in Hawaii to organize events locally and I would be more than happy to serve as your contact to the FCA-SW board if you want to have officially sanctioned events or if you simply want to submit photos and articles for inclusion in the Sempre magazine showing off the Ferrari activities that you do have.

    I'll keep you all posted.

    Peter

After much deliberation, the prudent decision was made to cancel the event rather than incurring any additional liability for spots that it is looking like we were not going to fill.

Maybe its something that we can look at for another time. If so, it would be great if it was organized by members in Hawaii as it could be better tuned for what you want to see and less about attracting Mainland members to go.

It would still be great to get some photos and maybe an article from time to time from members in Hawaii to publish in the magazine. Are their any events that the dealer puts together that get a good Ferrari turnout? There could also be the possibility of setting up a Hawaii FCA chapter if there was enough interest and potential members.

Thanks for trying Peter! I tell you this is such a tough place to enjoy the brand. Hope those of you who were trying to get away are able to do so. There are dealer events that happen from time to time as well as other groups that organize. Next time I do one I will try to craft a story and pictures for your consideration. Aloha

Peter, thank you for all your efforts. As Kevin stated, it is rather difficult to get many of the beautiful stallions to all come out at once. I'll give Kevin a hand at any future events. Aloha

I was just elected to the FCA Board so please, use me as an inroad to get some photos of Ferrari's in Paradise for the magazine. Even if its not an organized Ferrari event, if you can get several good photos of Ferraris around the Islands, we can put something together. We want to make sure our Island brothers are represented!

Thanks for giving it a go Peter. Sorry it couldn't happen. We don't get together as much as we should. Weather is often a factor along with terrible road conditions. I'm with Kevin, we'll try to get together and get some photos out of the Aloha Ferraris.

    Nice pics Kevin.
The weather wasn't the greatest on Friday with random showers, Saturday had overcast all day with no rain and Sunday rained early in the morning and turned out beautiful and sunny the remainder of the day...

Gil think the North Shore got the brunt of the storm from Thurs-Sat/Sun. It must have really got it too. I drove around the island yesterday and all the beaches on the NS are brown water. There was almost no one in the ocean which was very odd to see. Sunny and beautiful sky though!

I was in the North Shore as well but didn't approach the water and didn't realize it was brown. This time of year is a bad time to have a car event
