Yes a cool video, thanks for posting. The staged manufacturing scenes are hilarious, the camera man probably just told everyone to look busy.
I like the one where a guy is gas welding on a tube chassis and his co-worker is mindlessly banging a hammer on the frame just inches from his right ear! it would be painfully noisy!

It's also hard to say what the guy is doing with a crankshaft between "V" blocks, is he scribing something? measuring with a comparator? whatever he's doing it looks damned awkward.

The second scene of gas welding is obviously staged too, the welder seems to have a babysitter that has his hands damn close to the flame and hot parts, the babysitter obviously does not work in the weld shop, or has not been burned enough to know better.

Sorry guys, been in the shop too long...

 

He's looking for any curvature of the crankshaft, hence the four-inch thick marble table.

That was my first thought too, but that is normaly done with an indicator on a main journal.
Whatever he's doing it is fun to see the old tools, and as you mentioned, it does look like a granite surface plate he is working on. Surface plates are pretty much obsolete because laser trackers and probe arms don't care if the part is sitting on a flat surface or not.

The pole was won by Graham Hill in a BRM.During the event Mairesse and the Lotus of Trevor Taylor dueled for more than an hour, passing and repassing a number of times each lap. Mairesse was cheered heartily by an enthusiastic partisan crowd. The two cars came together at more than 100 miles per hour in the long, sweeping, left-hand Blanchimont Turn. Mairesse car went off to the left, careening into a hillside behind a ditch, and caught fire after flipping over. He was thrown out of his Ferrari and his shoes and the legs of his trousers were torn off. He was conscious, despite numerous scrapes, cuts, and burns. Mairesse was loaded into an ambulance and transported to a hospital, where he was reported to be in good spirits and without any serious injuries.

At the beginning, WM talks about modifications to install a more powerful engine. But which one?196 to 246 ? 246 to 248 ? 248 to 268 ? 268 to 286 ?

 

Really hard to say, but since this is I think a early test shot it must be a V6 engine car. Later on some 1962 V6's had the central exhaust also, the same as on the V8 cars. The car is a long nose. It does look like #0798 a V8 or #0790 a V6, so based on that it is #0790???
