    True. An engine failure should not bring a King Air down.

    I'm pretty sure the piston engine version are Queen Airs.

    I haven't flown King Airs (I joined just after we got rid or our last one), but I'd be surprised if that was even possible.

    In our aircraft (which also use PT6 engines) the switch only has two positions: "auto" or "on". There is no "off".

    Yeah, Queen Airs. When I was with the RFDS, they had switched to Super King Airs and had one Queen Air left. The pilots said if it lost an engine, the other will have enough power to take you to the scene of the accident.

    Yep. Pretty much the case with all piston twins. I used to hate taking off in the Chieftain with a full load. They barely climb with two engines screaming. One is just going to take you to the accident at high speed and it's unlikely to end well.

    Personally I think the whole "twins are safer" theory is absolute BS.

    Military is a different kettle of fish entirely. :)

    Accident statistics show clearly that you are more likely to die after an engine failure in a twin than in a single.

    And when you then factor in that you are twice as likely to have an engine failure in a twin in the first place, it blows the old theory out of the water.

    Stick with that and you'll be fine.

    Multi engine piston aircraft are much more complex and difficult to handle and don't provide any safety benefit in the vast majority of situations. Quite the opposite, actually.

    I'm saying this as a previous owner of a piston twin and I have around 3000 hours in virtually every common type.
    They can be great but they can also be damn dangerous.

    I live within walking distance of this and it could, perhaps even should, have been a hell of a lot worse. Airports in highly developed residential/commercial areas are a very bad idea. There is no buffer zone between the runways and surrounding houses and commercial buildings.
    This accident was bad; but if that airport keeps running, one day there will be an absolutey catastrophic incident.

    How long has the airport been in that location,Scott?

    I'll just answer that,1950.

    So it would appear the local council would have given all the approvals for any/all of any type of building in the area.....how is that the airports' fault?
