F355 ITO Racing Exhaust (Japan) .... better than Capristo??

Yeah at that weight and for that money I think I need to try it

I was thinking about making a ti exhaust but would probably spend at least that on materials

 

Yes I'm sure even the stainless version is much lighter than stock or Capristo.

 

Ya I think the stainless version is about 15 lbs.

I was just thinking. With the ebay titanium exhaust, you'll definitely need to run at least 200 cell cats to help muffle the sound. It might be too loud on startup or normal driving. 200 cell cats = more $$ more weight. If you're already running cats, I guess it doesn't matter.

 

I already have high flow primary cats.

Problem now is, I've been listening to videos of this setup and it seems more growly than high pitched. Not sure I would be happy with that.

 

Ya that's exactly my concern. Cappy weighs about 30 lbs! But sounds so sweeeet! lol

 

No Cats...this would be so loud.

 

My 98 F1 GTS has 200 cell hi flow CAT's (Evoflow) and a no-muffler pipe arrangement. It's loud as hell

The 95 B I sold last summer had test pipes and a Capristo Sound 2. Not even remotely as loud as my F1

I dont think anyone answered but the twin valve cappi has straight pipes with two valves when on bypass. But remember the muffler is still taking part of the flow which would explain why Daves and a challenge exhaust is louder. The main mufflers on Daves and a challenge are not much of a muffler. From what I recall just a bit of an oversized tube.

I think this is a fair price considering what it is. Keep in mind rates fluctuate. 4-5 months ago these would've been in the $3500 range when exchange rate was 1 USD to 120 Yen.

 

You think that is due to the resonator they chose? I guess that goes back to my original question... what is the key to the Capristo's F1 scream?


I did notice very minimal popping sounds overruns with the Capristo and primary straight pipe. I kinda want the pops. Not sure if a Y-pipe would do the job. Seems like lots of overrun with the ITO, which is fantastic .

 

Straight through? No resonator like the titanium version? F1 pitch or growl?

Is that the setup your neighbor's been complaining about?

I'm curious how much of an affect the headers have on the F1 sound. I'm running larger diameter headers (360 Challenge) in my car and currently I don't have much of the F1 sound. I attribute a lot of this to the custom exhaust on the car but if I changed to a Capristo would the sound still not be F1 because of the headers?

This car has the Toda stroker kit, Toda 4-1 bigger diameter headers, and the ITO exhaust.

 

Ito exhaust is 17 kgs. Yikes!

 

Did anyone notice that in the first post in this thread, the ITO racing muffler was tested on an "F385 Scuderia," obviously a modified F355 with a rebored engine.

We have a couple of F355 Challenge cars like that at Classic Coach with rebored engines, custom camshafts, remapped ECUs, and custom single-outlet mufflers that sound like that...

The results in an F355 might vary.

 

I've been thinking about this and I don't think it has anything to do with the resonators, I think the key is mixing bank to bank.

On most systems for this car, including Capristo the primary exhaust path mixes in the muffler and has a bit of a path to travel to do so, including directional changes.

So when the bypass valve opens you introduce a less restrictive flow path and you still have bank to bank mixing at the bypass valve. On a Capristo as far as I can tell, the secondary exhaust path is completely unmuffled straight tube, even though it is inside the muffler case.

Now compare this to the Challenge exhaust style.

I think the primary flow path is so unrestrictive you have little bank to bank mixing through the bypass. Why would the exhaust turn at the collector to go through the y-pipe when the primary path is literally straight through?

And of course the primary path doesn't mix.

That's my theory anyway.
