Will Alonso last the entire season with McLaren?

  1. He has a contract. He will stay

  2. He likes the money and F1 perks. He'll stay

  3. McLaren will get it's act together. He'll stay

  4. No one would want his salary. He'll stay

  5. McLaren will dump Honda. He'll stay

  6. He wants to win. He'll quit no matter the salary

  7. He's had enough. He'll walk away rich

  8. Honda will boot him for his comments

  9. I'm just having fun watching this mess.

Alonso is obviously upset with Honda and pretty vocal about it. He's getting to the end of his career. Sure, he has one more year on his contract but would he jump mid season if he had the opportunity? Or take a sabbatical to get out of the McLaren hot mess? Or McLaren Honda will get it's act together?

    Where would he go?
    There is no vacancy anywhere.
If he leaves and sits out then he will be just a memory.
He got impatient with Ferrari and is now paying the price.
This is no way a bashing Alonso post. I think he is the best driver on the grid .

I can see where a team wanting more points would want to drop a driver and take him on mid season. After all, the more points a team gets the more money it gets, plus better ad revenue from PR. Alonso can bring home a poorly handling car better than perhaps anyone on the grid.

So true but do you think Alonso would ever drive for a back marker team?
His ego is too big to be part of a circus act driving for a sub par team just for points.

    Hey Delp,
Would be awesome if Ron Dennis bought Manor and signed Alonso.
I would love to see that!

As much as I like Alonso, his career is probably just done.

Only chance would have been at Mercedes this year. It's really bad he's been relegated to being a back marker.

One of two possibilities. He will go to Mercedes next year or retire. Either way as crinoid says he'll be gone and McLaren will switch to Renault or Merc, and become good again!

Alonso to Red Bull next year. Max V. to Ferrari after Kimi retires.

Alonso's career is towards its end. Of course he is going to stay as much as he can. Where else is he going to go? Alonso is a good race car driver but a terrible test driver. Give him a good car and he will win. However, he doesn't have the ability to help the engineers (with his input) to develop a good car like MS used to do. I can't see any team benefit from hiring Alonso.

IMO he will stay to the end of the year, but he will be looking for another team for next year.

He will accept a pay cut to secure a seat in a competitive team.

To me, that means Mercedes, or Williams as a priority, where seats will be available.

Alonso would not fit at Red Bull, and Marko is against recruiting older drivers anyway.

Other alternative would be a return to Renault to replace Jolyon Palmer, if the team progresses enough this year in his eyes.

He's been doing exactly that for the last few years. The McLaren-Honda cars have not been worthy of world champions Alonso or Button.

I agree with William. Alonso will see this season out, but without significant progress, I think he'll be looking to get into another team in 2018.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

If MB clean up again this year i doubt very much they would want to hire Alonso, too much history with Lewis/Spygate etc, and far too expensive @$40mio .Bottas only on around $5 mio plus bonus.

In the unlikely event that Bottas doesn't cut it this year then maybe a small chance for Alonso.I do not see that happening.

If Ferrari drop Kimi then take one of the RB guys then Alonso might have a chance there (RB),but as said before Helmut is not keen on older drivers...they like to grow their own.

Williams if they can produce a top car then maybe...if they have enough $$.

There are a lot of IF's ,so i think it might even be Alonso's last year in F1,even though he is the self proclaimed 'best driver on the grid'

F1 is a cruel place sometimes.

To my knowledge, he hasn't proclaimed that himself. I've only seen other drivers label him as that.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

If Alonso is interested in relaunching his fading career, he will take a pay cut like other driver like him have done before (Piquet? ) so I cannot see that as a block for him to join another top team.
It's more his reputation of being toxic in a team that could be a handicap, plus the fact that his actual form is unknown.
He has been firefighting technical gremlins in the last 3 years and been unable to show a decent turn of speed.
In between, some newcomers to F1 have shown good performance and could look more attractive to employ.

Love to see him compete for a WDC once again.

I would love to see him to compete for a WDC as much I would love to see Massa. However, I have a feeling that his career is going to be over pretty soon.

Wow some of you are pretty harsh on Alonzo. Even though I am not a big Alonzo fan I can agree with the fact he is one of the best out there right now. Maybe even the best. The guy has made some bad decisions but we all have at one time or another. The internet cracks me up.
