Has been for sale for most of the end of 2016....then I assumed it was sold since I stopped seeing it advertised. Was out of the Bay Area if I remember correctly.

45K for a rebuilt title and no mention of service. If thats not scary enough the driver door/quarter panel alignment seems off.

I hadn't noticed the alignment issue, but now I do.

The conversion is one of those things that I suspect will help or hurt resale depending on the buyer. It does appear well done, for instance the rear three quarter panel "kick" before the spoiler was changed.

I believe it is a Husker grill in back, the seller said it was a "custom 348 challenge grill" and that I could find it for searching for that.

    wheels are from a 360

I didn't pay much more for an actual F355 with decent service records.

Like it was said previously a real 355 is not that much more expensive.

This one will be hard to sell too once the time comes.

"Only known conversion ever done, in the world. All real Ferrari 355 parts used."

And it still has a 348 motor.

"Like the classic air cooled 911's and acura nsx, these gated shift Ferrari's are expected to sky rocket in value, and have already double in value in past 10 years."

Ten years ago 348s were selling for $22.5K?

Still regardless of the hyperbole, one could probably get this car for $40k which wouldn't be bad to have some fun with. It's a 355 with a better interior. ;)

I went and checked out the car on Saturday.

    The Good:
Beautifully done, looks great, he has fixed the alignment issue with the driver door. Transmission shifts very well. I only drove it a little and not at high speed. I think the seller did not want to go too far since it didn't have plates. However there was no play in the steering, the engine felt strong and everything seemed well put together.

    The Bad:
electrical issues: fog lights won't turn on, high-beam stock seems to be entirely missing, one signal causes the reverse light to come on. On one side the front had two alternating signals, the other just had one.
The seller killed the car turning around and it would not start. he believes this is due to a known solenoid issue or and old expired battery, which he offered to replace.
One of the front fenders had snagged a tire and the lip was bet and the tire had gouges out of it
The front brake rotors are deeply grooved and probably need replaced.

It's worth it to pay more for a sorted car. Unless of course you're doing it yourself and have the time to play around with it.

Thanks for the firsthand report, miahshodan. The issues you mention could most likely be resolved for a few thousand dollars if you can do the work yourself. The problem I see with this car over the very long term is that it will never be worth as much as standard 348 because the Ferrari community values originality very highly. Its fan base will pretty much be limited to those who like the looks of the 355 but don't want the attendant issues associated with that model. I'm guessing that's going to be a pretty small segment of an already small market.

So, while it's possible the car could be put right without too much hassle, its narrow appeal in the marketplace means you need to be able to buy it *really* right in order to justify it over a less-modified car... unless it just happens to be your thang, in which case there are probably sillier ways to spend money. :)

I have a 97 salvage spider for that price in need of service for those who must service it. Otherwise the belts look brand new.

Red/Tan contact for details as I dont want this reply turn into a thread hijack

+1. The current owner got suckered into this car, and is now trying desperately to pawn it off on someone else...unless it could be had for super cheap (and even then I wouldn't) run.

I'd want someone that actually knows 348s to drive and inspect it before negotiating a sale...there is probably plenty more issues to uncover.

You make an excellent point-- considering the fact that obvious electrical problems are present there's a very good chance that there are other issues lurking. That doesn't mean that the car doesn't have potential, but you'd have to a) want a 348 in a 355 suit, b) be willing to do a lot of work yourself, and c) buy the car really right in order to come out okay on this one.
