Warning! Scammers among us!

Got a pm with the same MO. Account opened yesterday. Who should I report this to?

 

You can /!\ a PM also. Do so and the mods will get a copy and investigate.

 

A recent PM by a new, 2-post user (the minimum number of posts to enable the PM feature) was:

Same template as before, but another username, email, and phone number. hushfe has been permabanned.

This scam is still going on, so stay alert! Watch out for new, 2-post users, sending unsolicited PMs touting a 3rd party seller.

Also, please /!\ these PMs so we can ban the users and report them here so that their emails and phone numbers can be published and help your fellow users.

 

Hm, I would say the FBI and police should then do round-robin on cases and not just the 100k+ ones. Otherwise as a taxpayer you're not getting your money's worth, with the added degree of lawlessness that fosters. The scam artists will game the system and keep their frauds limited to 99k.

 

An F chat join date in the last 1-12 months with less than 25 posts should raise eyebrows.
I have bought stuff on here from long time users, I always check their profile and click on "see all posts by XXXX"
Kind of like a Carfax report
You can get a "feel" why they are here, if most their posts are "great" deals on stuff pay attention.

A friend just gave out his credit card number AND an online check to a scam because his "IP number had been compromised "
Cost him $250 and a panic run to the bank to cancel his credit card and close his acct.

 

Guess I struggle with all of this.There is a very simple solution. Either pay wit pay pal or CC , no matter who the seller is.It is sooo easy to dispute charges or notify pay pal of any problem and get a full refund.I don't care who advertises, they can't scam you if you just follow the simple common sense rule.

 

In pretty much all cases the bank account will be a dead end.

What I usually see is a poor student recruited by the crook....My friends will transfer £xxx to your account because I'm having trouble with my overdraft....if you take it out for me in cash when it comes through I will give you £x for your trouble...

Or if they are more sophisticated they will just use fake ID - has been a big problem here with national ID cards that some countries use and banks accept. Rules though are getting tougher , Romanian national I'd cards a particular issue.

Pay pal or credit card or no deal ...

Banks and the old bill are in the main not interested in tracking this stuff at this individual level as they are swamped with fraud cases.
