    Hello guys,

    So I have an Audi R8 V10. Pardon all the misconceptions/mistakes I make in this thread.

    I was interested in possibly also getting a 360 or 430, and have been trying to compare them to eachother as well as my R8. First thing I noticed is that the Modena has a lower gas mileage than my R8 V10? I'm already spending a lot of money on gas as I drive the car all the time; perhaps I won't drive the Ferrari as often but I was just wondering why a V8 3.6L engine that's 400HP with a lower weight is using more gas than my V10 5.2L that's 525HP?

    Then why is the Ferrari 360 faster or about the same acceleration as the F430? Is the F430 just "newer" with a different design but a lower tier product? How do they name their products? How I currently guess they do it is the first number being the "series" and the second and third number the "range" of product? So is the 458 more close to the "newer" version of the "360" or is the "430" closer? Is it just the 8 miles an hour extra top speed that justifies it over the 360? Just the age or new interior/exterior? I guess what I'm trying to ask is if you think the F430 is worth if, if all I care about is speed/fun at normal highway speeds (70-110ish)

    Thanks for your help.

    It would take an encyclopedia to answer all of your questions.

    And gas mileage isn't a consideration when buying a Ferrari.

    there's this thing called technology. it makes newer cars more efficient. aerodymanics, gearboxes, drivetrain losses, tire technology, engine technology.

    the f430 is most definitely faster than the 360

    360 = 3.6l
    430 = 4.3l
    458 = 4.5l v8
    488 = each cylinder 488cc x 8 = 3.9l v8

    If gas mileage is a consideration, don't buy a Ferrari, especially an older one. Technology tends to advance with time. But when buying exotics/supercars, the one thing you shouldn't be concerned about at all is gas mileage. If you are, you are not prepared for the repair bills.

    Depending on your source, 0-60 times are within tenths of each other so no big improvement on that from one to the other although the engines are different.

    The 430 has around 85 horsepower over the 360 and a lot more low-end torque; it's a completely different engine. You can imagine what that does to real-world performance, in a car of around the same weight. Neither is as fast as your V10 R8 in a drag race, but that's not what these cars are really about.
    Some people prefer the 360s looks; others prefer the 430's handling (it has a different diff and different (sportier) suspension settings); others prefer the 360s sound. The interiors are pretty similar, the 430 had more choice of adornments as options.
    The 458 is a big step up again from the 430, comparable (though better handling and performing than) your R8. Some people think the 458 doesn't feed back as much as a 430 unless you are driving very hard. The 458 has a different type of paddleshift system, closer to what you are accustomed to, and was not available with a gated manual transmission.
    If you spend a couple of hours looking back through this board's posts, you'll find everything you could ever want to hear, and more. Happy hunting.

    Yep, cant imagine why you even have gas mileage in your head when considering such cars?

    Must admit, being first post it comes across as troll to me. If you want to say my Audi R8 is better than a Ferrari, just do so! You measure cars in a different way, each to their own, but to try to quantify everything in your life....I guess I think in a very different way so struggle with such views?

    The 1st gen R8 V10 and F430 are about the same in straight line acceleration. Did a run against a friend's. He was surprised how fast the F430 is. The V10 should have the edge in the higher miles per hour.

    It makes sense. 525hp for R8 V10 vs 483hp for F430. Curb weight for R8 V10 is around 3,575 lbs. F430 curb weight is 3,344 lbs. F430 is better geared for acceleration also.

    But if all you care about is a little fun at highway speeds not sure if you would like the F430. It's not a very fast car in today's world.

    F430 is a great all around car. It's fun to take it through turns and curvy roads. Has decent acceleration. Sounds great screaming up to 8,500 rpm.

    Not familiar with this "gas mileage" term...i thought they only did that with Hondas, I don't know much about them. It sounds like you are asking, "why isnt a Ferrari the fastest thing in the world if it doesn't get 30 mpg?"

    Ferraris are race bred machines designed to not only perform going straight, but in just about any racing style you can throw at them. Beyong that, they are works of art wrapped in Italian leather that have tuned exhaust notes and legacy unmatched by almost any other company. A Ferrari is the whole experience, not a drag car with a live rear axle. Get an old camaro and put a quarter of the cost of an F car and you will blow it out of the water in a straight line. Just don't turn the wheel. At the end of the race, the Ferrari will still be a Ferrari and the Camaro will still be a Camaro.

    Sincerely,
    A former F body/current Vette guy

    My wife has an A4. That's the same thing as an R8 right?.. or does the R8 have more cylinders... All Audi's just look so similar. I get soo confused. Does the R8 get the 34 miles per gallon as her A4?

    See you have some "reading" to do.. rather than just come here and troll.

    Is the 430 worth it if all you care about fun at normal speeds? Since I've never seen anyone with an R8 ever do more than 70 MPH or just blast up and down main street... I guess the answer would be.. yes. OTOH half the R8 drivers that I see have automatic cars and are going to their hair appointment.

    "Gas mileage" can be a complicated topic. Even gets in to fuel mixture for cylinder temperatures. Anyone who has trouble with model designations might have a hard time with real technical stuff. As far as gas mileage.. if you're worried about that in the slightest... buy a Prius.

    I have a solution to your problem. Get a 918! I'm averaging 38 MPG with 900hp. LOL, this must be one of the weirdest thread I have seen on Fchat!

    Nice! It's a tiny bit more expensive than a 360/430 though. :)

    I too have been wondering why my 430 is slower than a 360. But the gas mileage is great. I also love the stereo.

    My 360 got 24 mpg on highway trips, which really surprised me. But I did not buy it for that of course. I liked the looks better than the 430, but that's only my opinion

    Probably a troll but just for fun, my 355 (that's a 3.5 liter V8) averaged 15 mpg. My 2009 Viper with an 8.4 liter V10 averaged 15 mpg. 375 horsepower vs 600 horsepower. It has mostly to do with the revs.

    So a 246 is a lower number than 360 or 430. And 250 is a lower model number than 458 or 488.. does that mean it's cheaper? Because 250 "is almost half" 458... does that mean that it's half the price? You'll have to excuse me, my life is a paradox. I can use an online car forum but I don't know how to use Google.

    Just enjoy your r8. It's a great car. It lives in the Gallardos shadow, imo, partially because the front end is just a lower and wider a5/tt.
    its (r8) like dating Khloe Kardashian...you'd have to be thinking about Kim (Gallardo) the whole time (and so would everyone else who saw you, lol). ;)
    I considered getting an r8...I like audis, have one for a daily driver. But I couldn't get past the over played front end and (even more) that stupid looking side blade.

    Audi R8 is for those 50 shades women... LOL

    I don't mind the interiors in the R8, but it doesn't have that "Exotic" look of a Lamborghini or Ferrari to me and I doubt it has the raw feel either. My 2014 C7 Corvette has 460 HP and gets 17/29 mpg, whereas my F430 Spider has 490 HP and gets 12/18. Those numbers are fairly close and while my Corvette & F430 both clock in at 3.8 0-60 I can tell you that the F430 is far more exhilarating to drive. So the numbers only express the straight line dynamics.

    Seriously concerned about the gas mileage?! Are you sure you didn't mistakenly post here when you really wanted to post on the Toyota Prius forum? :)
    Ok, now on a truly serious note, if gas mileage is a concern then I wouldn't be buying an f-car. The Audi is going to be ahead on that.
