    Good morning,

I recently grazed two of my alloy wheels with a kerb. :((

A place close to me are in the business of refurbishing alloy wheels where they completely strip the paint off the wheel and re complete the paint on the entire wheel. Used them for my Z3 M Coupe and they did a good job.

My question is, is there anything in particular that may be different when re finishing 550 wheels? I'm looking near to the OEM finish.

    Thank you :)

Henryr has a great point. I've purchased two sets of 550 wheels in the past year. The cost of quality metal and paint work performed on two wheels would likely go a decent way towards a new set instead.

I paid $250 / wheel for California diamond cut wheels that had been painted black to be stripped, recut, painted and clear coated.
For my 308 it was $100 per wheel to be painted and matte clear coated, and for my 456 $150 per wheel for repair, refinish, mount and balance.

Are replacement wheels really that inexpensive?

Chris Knoppe of Exoticar, a sponsor here, bought the mother lode of 550 wheels. He was selling sets for $1500. I almost bought a set just for trading later.

Right, Chris. Curb rash happens and is easily repaired. There's no need to buy a new wheel each time it happens.

Good information regarding getting a new set if needed. I'll get mine refurbished for now but useful information none the less.

    Thanks again

Good news is the 550 wheels are aluminum, so no special treatment required. The recalled magnesium wheels could be more of an issue, depending on how they were refinished.
