Ok, this has nothing to do with Ferrari 348s or 355s, but I didn't know where else to scream. Ed China is leaving Wheeler Dealers because Discovery/Velocity wanted to cut back on his part of the show to save money!! WTF? Why would you buy a successful show and then screw with the most important part of it?
If that ain't enough to rock my world, then Hemmings informs me they're stopping my favorite magazine: Hemmings Sports Cars and Exotics.
Where did I put my Xanax??????
Sorry for this intrusion. Now back to your regularly scheduled Ferrari discussion...

It's a shame. I would endure Mike Brewer and his rather irritating rants just to get to the garage segments with Ed. Not quite sure how they can still call the show Wheeler Dealers without Ed and the current garage format.

If Mike Brewer had ****** he would have done what James May and Richard Hammond did when Clarkson get canned. China was a great presenter. Another good show wasted. Ant Anstead to replace him? Another Chris Evens?

The new production company want to save money? - Looks like its back to the rattle cans for paint jobs once more!

It's interesting to read Mike Brewer saying that Ed China has left as he wants to pursue other projects, completely ignoring the fact the new production company had decided to slash the part that Ed China played in making the programme.

I suspect wheeler dealers will now become like so many other car programmes on TV today, such as "Counting Cars", where a wreck turns up at the garage, you get an advert break every 10 minutes, loads of nonsense concerning the people around the car, rather than anything useful about the car itself, a brief montage of work being carried out on the car, complete with a voice over from Ant Anstead saying something along the lines of: "We've worked really hard on this car, and have had to change a lot of parts, but now the car is in perfect working order!", and suddenly the car is presented as being in perfect condition.

    I can't help thinking that:

    1) Ant Anstead will soon get fed up with the fact that all the work he does gets swept under the carpet by the production company, just as Ed China knew he'd get fed up with it, and won't be on the show for long.

    2) Mike Brewer should have had the balls to tell the new production company that the balance of the show between his part and Ed China's was the very thing that made it the success that it was, and no Ed China - No Mike Brewer!

    3) I can see Wheeler Dealers losing it's audience bit by bit and being cancelled in the next couple of years.

I like the program but i hate 2 bits of it. First when the car arrives and blows the horn, out comes edd from hiding behind the door, clean hands as been sitting waiting for someone to shout action and the other thing is the other guy comes from the shadows for that bloody handshake .

It will be a pity if the show goes despite my pet hates.

To be fair. I like Mike. His energy great and I have been watching the show since it was produces for the UK way way back. I also have watched mikes breakaway show where he travels the world trading up. I watch it but like wheeler better.

The reason the show did so well is that mike was letting us in on alleged trade secrets and Ed was showing us how to do it. Even if you don't turn a wrench it was very interesting seeing the work and hearing the mechanical facts.

With Ed and mike they were an odd couple of sorts, alsmost a shaggy and Scooby-Doo respectfully.

Again I like Mike but I'd be more keen to watch a more technical show with Ed than trading up with mike.

Unless contractually obligated I can't see the show going for more than 1 season.

Velocity is a fine cable network but all of those car show production companies have formulated the show down to the minimum content needed.

Has anyone noticed that the shows are now down to about 18 to 19 minutes excluding adverts?

I will wait eagerly for another show with Ed and mike is certainly invited.

Edd is all that prevents Wheeler Dealers from being just another of the Velocity channel nose picker programs. Why do car show producers always seem to assume anybody who likes cars is a knuckle dragging cretin?
I watch that show to see Edd's problem solving. I could do without Mike.
Maybe they'll pair up Mike with some weary bimbo that's had lots of discount plastic surgery and add a heavy metal soundtrack.

Wayne Carini's show and the one at the Guild are all that will be left for me.

Velocity production is completely wrong. Without Ed China, Wheeler Dealers will cease to exist. I guess we can still watch Roger Barr from CCC, he's a genius as well. But, they've seem to cut Roger's air time a bit. As far as I'm concerned, Ed and Roger are the only two guys I care to watch on any car show.

Or, we could really dumb ourselves down and watch All Girl Garage!

I read that Ed left because the Producer felt he was spending too much time and money to properly fix the cars, and Ed had a moral issue and wouldn't cut corners. He was the only reason I watched that show. Tragic...

Edd put out a YouTube video discussing his reasons for leaving. It wasn't so much that they asked him to cut corners in fixing cars...it's that filming/producing him fixing the cars was more complicated and expensive than Velocity realized. Bean counters got their way and Edd's work was to be under-represented.

It's going to turn into Mike doing one of those cooking shows ... you know, where they skip all of the actual cooking and pull a perfect 'whatever' out of the oven "here's one I made earlier".

It would be like filming an episode of "Sherlock" without Martin Freeman.

Will miss Ed's 'top tip...' which are like tricks of the trade wisdom. Blah another good show going down by changing the people who made it work in the first place.. top gear the same.

Exactly how I felt. Two of my favorites gone within a couple of days. Fortunately, Classic Motorsports is still around.

For me, they could've just eliminated the Mike Brewer parts of the show and I'd have been fine with the format change. Ed could've just started the show by introducing a car that he and the producers sourced(eg Lancia Fulvia, BMW 2002 etc), fix it up, then tell us what happened during the sale process. The only Brewer bits that I liked was when he visited various shops and cottage businesses to rebuild heads, remanufacture steering wheel, upholsterer, sellers of obscure parts etc etc.

But it sounds like they're determined to eliminate the parts that made it a solid show. Too bad.

"The Guild Show" (Restoration Garage) is a good show with incredibly talented staff, but what's with those shirts he wears? Not sure you can find those in the men's dept.
Another good one is B****in' Rides. Also very talented staff and not a lot of interpersonal drama. If I wanted that crap I'd be watching General Hospital instead.
Agree with those who felt Mike should have gone with his principles and not his wallet and sided with Ed. Then maybe we would still have Wheeler Dealers as it should be. I would think they both would have made enough money by now to stand up to what ever mid- level exec. who thought a change was needed to justify his position in the company. Idiot. Probably same guy who thought New Coke was a great idea...

Well that sucks. I really enjoyed watching Ed on the show, especially how he explained what he was doing and why. Also because if there was some part that was unobtainium he would find the same part on some other make/model car which would work. He'll be missed.

I remember him working on a Maserati 3200, with a Maserati SD scanner connected to the car. That made things easy. But a Maserati SD1 or 2 is unobtanium in itself...
I guess for a "TV-celebrity" everything is easy to find, or to have find...
