Do you guys tip your service guy when you bring your car in for service?
When my service adviser goes above and beyond, I'll throw him a bottle of booze or similar. I feel like if you scratch their back, they'll do everything they can to scratch yours. This is BMW, not Ferrari though. Not sure how much pull or leverage an SA at a Ferrari dealer has. -James
In my mind, a Service Advisor is a professional. And, again in my mind, you don't tip professionals.... do you tip your dentist? that's just my line of thinking. On the other hand, regarding labor type of positions such as a valet or similar you may tip if you are feeling generous... but you don't have to... just how I think about it...
I will tip the mechanic who worked on my car. Like a major on my 308... $50. For annual service on my 458, I will probably tip also. Service adviser no.
I have been known to buy pizza for the folks who are working on a Saturday in a garage or at the tire shop but to me that's not tipping. Once in a while I just like to do something nice for folks. I won't do that at a dealership though.
For us, it depends. At the Fcar dealer, we're somewhat regulars, as we stop in occasionally just to chat with the guys (my wife and I tend to hang out in the service department), and most of the staff are our friends.....so while it would be odd to tip your "friends", we do take them out to dinner or will bring lunch in occasionally. We absolutely do tip the detail team when they wash the car for us.... At the other dealers, where our relationship is a bit more traditional (we're customers, not friends) we'll occasionally drop off a gift card or a small $$ tip. FWIW our local Porsche and VW dealers have been great in service and I appreciate the grind they have to go through
Never. And I had a stop that repaired Maserati and Ferrari and in those 10 year it existed the number of tips equaled--- NADA The only thing is if you have the car detailed there (which I think is pretty rare by most). But regular service and repair -- nope. Christmas gifts of food and snacks are always welcome. Booze --- BAD IDEA! And in San Francisco, you can consider flowers and candy....
^This. I'll buy pizza or take in a big crate of beer. It's a very easy/cheap way to put a smile on people's faces.
They take great care of me and especially my cars - even on a Saturday or Sunday...where I live, that's unheard of
Typical Swiss ? (just joking) ... Mentallity ? Over here F shops are closed on Sundays, only a rescue service is availble via Phone. Tips: we never give them tips over here to the F mechanics, as mentionned, they do their work. What I did last year is bringing them a large cake for coffebreak at 10.00 Made them happy also ..
100 chf is peanuts but means a helluva lot to the service (technicians) gents....these guys have looked/worked under my car for me at 1am via FaceTime......enuf said [emoji6]
Yes. $100 to buy pizzas or sandwiches for the team. We are driving $300K cars. Why be a cheapskate with the team who cares for them?
Thank you sir! Some of us even have multiple 300k++ cars and as I highlighted above, they go beyond out of their way only because I've (likes of yourself) have looked after them!
It's a great idea, I've brought lunch in, bottles of wine for Christmas etc. if they do a great job it's nice to recognize it IMHO, they don't make a large salary and if they work hard it's my pleasure.
