    Thats what i said before,that these cars swallow lots of money and quick,so if you are not DIY guy,no value there. you can buy a lower mile car and ready to go and also not much on parting out this one,since the engine already has 60k and F1 issues? what else is there of value other than body parts. But its worth $20k and DIY,can be a good driver,for sure.

    Thats a fact, that this car can only become a great driver with significant expense and nothing ever more,so if bought for $20k and DIY,would be a good deal for someone. other than that,there is a lot of 355"s out there that are sorted out and lower miles and ready to go.

    It can be done,but with the donor car only,otherwise of you buy parts separately,too expensive.

    I disagree.

    This is a decent value for a DIY'er.. however it is a driver and a keeper, not a car to expect to make any money on. There is no money in this car to fix and sell, but you can buy and fix this car for less money than you can purchase an already sorted F355 F1 Spider for... assuming again, the engine is healthy!

    Assume you get the car for $28,000 dollars. You invest 5K in parts/rebuild on F1 components, and another $5,000 on major service parts and misc parts... and you have a sorted 355 spider for $38,000. Again, this is doing ALL your own labor including the engine R&R. Cross your fingers the heads don't need new guides lol....

    Well, that makes the conversion to gated easier-and of course cheaper. My wife would flipping kill me for this one but damn what a cool project

    I bet this guy selling the car has no idea there is this much chatter about a car he just wants to flip...F-chatters, we're funny animals. It's fun to discuss the things we love. :)

    It's never that easy. I spent 15k on a car that needed nothing but a major and had half the mileage. Other things pop up, not to mention headers and cats, the usual culprits.

    For the most part yes, it's still a bit difficult to find all the parts. I imagine for the 355 it's a bit easier but for the 360 they get swooped up right away.

    I've heard this about 360s. Are the 360 and 430 transmissions the same in gated vs f1 cars, like the 355? Some of the gated 430s (there aren't many) are going for more than scuds now, but these may be garage queen time capsules.

    The older I get (46 now) the more I'm thinking I should have grabbed a gated 550 when they were crazy cheap...but I got my gt4 for even crazy cheaper

    Correct. The F1 option is an electro-hydraulic system that does the job of your left foot and right hand (moving the clutch and changing gears). Besides that it's the same components inside except different fluid and throwout bearing I believe.

    Add me to the group of if onlys. If this were about a year from now I'd be in a better position to think about it. I mean come on, I bought a $20k 308 put more than that in to it and almost broke even when I sold it. Almost. This might be a little harder to pull off with the more modern tech involved. If the timing were right and the engine checked out I would be seriously thinking about it.

    If this car was in Europe, it would have sold already weeks ago. We do not have 25000-30000 usd 355's over here anymore.

    Words of wisdom presumably written by 12 year old with 24 posts over 4 years, insulting other user's knowledge. That's the only fact here. There are plenty of cars with over 60k miles that are excellent, well maintained cars (on this site even), probably in better shape than the garage queens that sit and rot. Do you know anything? If these cars were the "kiss of death" at 60k miles would anyone buy them at their prices? Are these cars really that low quality that they cost 10 times what a normal car does and only last for 30k miles? Do you actually own a Ferrari? Educate yourself before overusing exclamation points.

    Great third post. Shows understanding.

    Not trying to be an ass here, but there are 2 possibilities here with this car, one is fathomable, one is not. If you took this to get sorted out at the dealer, I could easily see $30k in service to bring it back. At that point, the $30k entry fee is probably too much.

    If you are a DIY-er, this car may be a awesome opportunity to have a $40k 355. If it's one thing I've learned, that with a little patience and some sleuth work, you can find deals on parts or get discounts buying multiple things

    I will be back in Atlanta later this week (getting bad weather today) and may look at this car and report back. I would consider it but I am out of garage space and already have one torn up Ferrari in there. My neighbor has a workshop with lifts, cherrypickers and all the goodies, I may try to convince him...

    This post deserves some kudos.

    If all your friends refuse after you've seen the car in person, post up your findings. I am pretty interested in the car, but can't find the time to get from Massachusetts to Georgia in the coming weeks for a "maybe" buy a gamble of a car.

  17. I'd buy this car for $25K, detail it and park it next to my other four blue cars in my garage, and just stare at it every morning...

    I am in US, and have the $$, and am able to fix this car, and am willing to buy it, BUT,
    when someone only gives you the last 6 of the vin and you are not able to run a report, dont you think that a bit strange?

    No, The rest of the VIN is a prefix for all 355's of that year, try ZFFXR48A5X0******

    edit: The "5" in that number may change, not sure what that means...try a few different combinations:

    ZFF=Italy Ferrari
    X=F129C Engine
    R=Airbags
    48=355 F1 Spider
    A=Left-hand Drive North America
    1=Check Digit
    X=1999
    0=Maranello Plant
    ******=Serial Number

    Google redhead vin decoder. Searching that site will help you to determine the first 11. As mentioned there are only a few spots/digits that are variable and working through a few combinations you should have it in no time unless its somehow a small market car

    A few years back a somewhat well know crazy guy with a number of Ferraris put his 1962 Lusso on craigslist for $60,000. Even then the price was very good for this car however it had a Chevy 350 engine. The owner growled in the advertisment "No I don't have the original engine!". Even then I knew finding an engine for the Ferrari would not be easy and cost a pretty penny. After all Enzo did say something like "I make engines not cars".

    I learnt a lesson(involves spending lots of money) that you let some other guy restore the car.

    So why dont you buy it if its such a great deal? This car when all fixed up and serviced will never be more than a nice driver and never be worth more than $40k! And was no insult in the post,but a simple fact,that this car will never be a $70k car,besides its F1!! Lots of cars there for more money and ready to and with that said,its a good DIY deal,thats all.

    First of all I totally would have bought it by now if it was within 200 miles of me. Second...Never say never...Do you remember Testarossa prices a few years ago? Countach prices? How about 308s? Dude things change. Also just a few $$$ and its no longer F1. I hope somone quotes this post in 2020 and we all laugh.

    He's not in town, as I believe he's in Soring Break. It is local to me. I may pick it up and fix her up, since I'm a DIYer. I am still awaiting additional pictures.
