My DIY Annual + Spark Plugs

I decided to do the Inspections, Oil Change, Filters and Spark Plugs myself (I Just hit 30k miles). Everything looked good, but will need to change out the CV Boot heat shields at some point. They look a little weathered. Trying to decide if I want to do the F1 fluid myself. I hate bleeding brakes, so I’ll probably take it in somewhere.

Oil change was fine, but I took a bath in oil. I tried holding a funnel under the rear drain but it just overflowed and pissed all over my face. Gross.

Filters were a piece of cake.

Spark plugs were unbelievably easy. Judging by the looks, I’m sure they were the original plugs.

Good to see another DIY'er, and with you on brakes. Will probably do my fluids once my car is ready to come out of surgery but will probably still take it to a dealer for annual and a yearly check up with Dr. Leonardo

 

i did a brake bleed on my cayenne and learned that a tool is needed to keep the ABS valves open to do a proper bleed, i wonder if ferrari is the same way, or any ABS car for that matter

 

Well, the last time I did brakes was about 20 years ago when 2 people were needed and it was super messy. If there is an easy way to do it now, I'd love to try it!

 

For brakes get a Mitivac and shop air. Don't worry about ABS. Small amount of fluid. Just trigger ABS on gravel or leaves to mix with flesh fluid.

Coolant get Airlift system to use with shop air.

Both are super easy with practice.

 

Eric, can you please share the torque specs you used on the motor and transaxle oil drain plugs? The shop manual torque specs seem too high.

I torqued them down to 30nm. Not much.

 

It's also a good idea to mark the plug for next time.

 

A faceful of oil. There seems to be a spaghetti western movie with that similar name.

I just had a local shop do my oil....$440. I'll be doing it myself from now on.

 

Yeah, my local exotic shop quoted me $1,300 for an oil change, spark plugs and air filters.

Plugs - $80
Oil - $100
Oil Filter - $90
Air Filters - $84

Total Cost - $354

 

I also managed to get oil splashed everywhere. That rear drain plug is huge and drains out about 7 quarts in 5 seconds. You pretty much need a high walled bucket or something similar.

Most owners hold out the service costs charged by dealers and shops as a badge of honor. I've had my CS since 2010, do my own work and frankly the costs have been more than reasonable as long as you are willing to get a little dirty!

I will have to say that the immobilizer, clutch position sensor and the gearbox heat exchanger were 'challenging', but belts, fluids, filters etc are a cake walk.
