    Hey Gang,

For the few if you that have Car Play, is it even remotely close to being worth it? I know $4,200 is a total rip but is there actually any functionality that makes this feature something useful?

Music - can stream from my phone without Car Play

Phone - sync's wirelessly thru the current infotainment system

Nav - current infotainment system also has Nav..just cant enter addresses by speaking them

Texting - can speak text with CarPlay

    Thanks!

Bought my 2015 Cali used with the CarPlay and HiFi options. Hard to justify the CarPlay option given the price, especially given the limited amount of miles avg Cali is driven. How many times will you use the Navigation in a Cali, probably zero but it's still available without CarPlay. Phone works great with BlueTooth so CarPlay not much improvement. Still dangerous focusing on texts while mobile even with CarPlay. So it really comes down to the music streaming for me, the Cali radio reception is HORRIBLE, audio quality on streams is noticeably better than radio reception. CarPlay for music streams is convenient, but not worth the $4200 in my opinion.

If it was free and in my daily driver of course my opinion would change.

I have it in my Porsche and did not have to pay for it. I do not see any value to it. The other thing to note you have to have your phone plugged in for Apple Play to work. Another reason to pass.

A review I recently read said that the car play feature was so bad in the 2017 488 spider that it was laughable and the voice application worked so poorly that he spent most of his time cursing the ghost of Steve Jobs.

I love car play. Much better for getting directions, simply say where I want to go and get great accuracy. I like the music much better, simply say play Bob Dylan and it plays Dylan. Texting is great, reading and responding. I have Spotify and AudioBooks as well.

Is it worth it? Can't answer that, but I can say I want any Ferrari I own to have Apple CarPlay. Better everything.

That make no sense. The software has nothing to do with the version of the car. It's Apple CarPlay. Maybe the version of the persons iphone and OS.

The voice commands with car play as so much better than OOB unit its ridiculous. Have you tried to put an address into Ferrari unit? Almost impossible. Reply to a text?

The first thing I do is plug in my phone drop it in the middle console and I have super easy calling, music, texting, and navigation. top notch interface.

The only thing that not super cool is that it has to be plugged in. I can't think of anything that I would say I don't like.

I used one of these in my 599 to eliminate the wire connection on my iPhone.

Not sure if it will work w/ CarPlay in the California - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzBMKQExkNw

The California T already has Bluetooth. I played music from Bluetooth, it was fine but I wanted Apple CarPlay.

I think it may depend on how you plan to use your Cali. If it was a DD, all of the things that g2g mentioned would be worth it IMO. If the Cali is going to be a weekend fun car, then I'd save the $ and invest it in another option or bank the cash. That amount would pay for one year of warranty.

I understand that CarPlay requires a wired connection to your phone for the Siri interface. When my California Twin Turbo arrives next month, I'll try the Bovee 1000 and see if it enables wireless Siri...

The new California T already has bluetooth. You don't need a Bovee.
