991.2 GT3, though I love it...it's a beetle in the grand scheme of things.

LP570 old hat tech, nothing wrong with that but it's certainly not special enough IMO. Needs to be a (manual IMO) Murcielago if you want old tech.

458 is new-ish tech, best engine.

If you want old tech but flappy paddles I'd take a CS, unless you desperately want more speed then a Scuderia.

he's talking about the Mclaren 570S or GT which are phenomenal cars

    i switched from a 2013 458 spider to a 2017 570GT and love both

the 570GT is newer and has more tech feel, but performance wise i think about the same

both draw incredible amounts of attention and make me feel very special driving them

for me the warranty on new cars outweighed the Ferrari magic so i went with the Mclaren but i never regretted owning the 458 spider for 2 years... i became my childhood dream of being Magnum PI.

i haven't driven any new porsches so i have no opinion on them

good luck you can't go wrong with any of those!

Porsche has moved past this as much as a Lambo Huracan is a tractor.

458 for me on looks alone , engine scream and 100 times easier to get in and out of. Not to mention much more room in the cabin.

At that price point, you are talking about a 2010 458.....which is an older car at this point with possibly looming service bills. GT3 new would be fun that you can configure it the way you want and have a full warranty.

I would honestly opt for the 570S of the 3. Outstanding reviews, easily upgradable power (sorry 458), an occasion to drive at any time (sorry GT3).

I would agree a Lamborghini Huracan 580-2 should also be in the mix, and for me it might beat out the 570S.

Hi there, I'm completely new to the forum. Just started pondering a used 458, I've been looking at a new 570s but a friend over on rennlist convinced me to consider a used 458.

Seems like there is plenty of used inventory to browse and prices of 2013 model years seem to be on par with a new 570s? I've driven the 570 thought it was great but different from the 991 GT3RS that own, definitely not as visceral but sexy as all get out. So I think a 458 could be right up my alley, sexy and visceral.

Any advice on buying from the group?

    Jeff

P.s. A gt3 is a must own for track junkies...

Go 458. That's where I'm headed. Prices have come down on clean 458's. You can get into a nice 13 with good options , low miles and remaining maintenance for right around $200K. Best of luck to you. Can't really go wrong with any of them.

The 458 is the best looking and best sounding. Probably slower on the track than the other 2 but if you dont track, who cares.

The 991.2 gt3 will have a manual so that's a plus if you like manual gb.

The 570 looks has grown on me a lot. But the sound is still uninspiring.

Ferrari will never make another NA v8 like we have seen in the 458.
Ferrari will never make another Pininfarina-penned mid-engined Ferrari like the 458.
With Euro5 on the horizon, the idea of a naturally aspirated 9k screaming combustion engine is nothing but a dream.

The 991.2GT3 will be replaced by another 911.
The 570 has nothing endearing about it whatsoever in my books. It's generic looking, and has nothing unique about in the McL range of cars.

Choosing between a bunch of cars is a matter or personal taste mostly.

What has been written above isn't an opinion. It's a fact.

    Kind regards,

Some dealers are buying 991.2 GT3 to keep, especially the manual. They bet (hope) that next GT3 will be vacuum cleaner, and with the price range below 200K, there is a huge room to increase if the successor is vacuumed. But if Porsche keeps the NA, still depreciation won't be too much with manual stick.
I think it's just a matter of time before all 911 become vacuum cleaner.

I am biased... 458 Italia !!! Best looks, best sound, best engine, best gearbox, best handling, best driver experience, plus it's a Ferrari ... You cannot go wrong...

The other two are great cars too, but I personally would regret taking them over the 458...

Despite having a 458 which I love, the "answer" to this question really is: "It Depends."
It depends on how you plan to use the car, your comfort level with cost of depreciation/repairs, your comfort level with notoriety or lack there of, and how much importance you place on visual and aural drama over speed or build quality.
For sheer speed and feeling like you are riding on the front tires, the 570.
For everyday usability and almost blending in - despite the rear spoiler - the GT3.
For a pure sense of occasion the 458.
I have wresteled with selling my 458 so many times in exchange for a Porsche that I can "drive to work" on weekends. Plus 4k miles a year on a Porsche is ultra low mies. Put that on a Ferrari and in a few years car is almost unsellable.

991.2 GT3 is a wife. Ferrari 458 is an affair. Lambo hmmmmm, maybe a bad affair.

I was at the Porsche and dealership today after being at Ferrari. You can't compare, the presence and overall magic of a 458 is something you remember, the others not so much. While I would love to spec a 991.2gt3 for a fun year I can't see it being a car I would love and cherish - more like something I would enjoy and respect.

    I don't own neither car.
Driven the 458 ...love the look, but it didn't excite me just didn't I don't know why.
I have driven 570 ...its fast but i felt a lag right before the turbos spool up,
    Plus the look blah.
Porsche gt3 feels more visceral to me lower to the ground.
I'm on the list I hope to get a manual.
Maybe one day I will buy a 458 just to say I owned a Ferrari.

As one who's had numerous 911s, GT3, GT4, Spyder, and now an owner of a 458, this is truer than a true thing.

The Ferrari experience doesn't compare with anything really...
Porsche & Lambo are great cars, but not as special as Ferrari...
The only Porsche cars that make you think twice are the very special versions like the 993 GT2 , 959 , Carrera GT and 918... The GT3 are great track cars, but not special enough compared to a Ferrari...

    I have a 991 GT3, a GT4 and a 458.

Definitely 458 is more of an experience...lots of attention, picture taking, talking at gas stations and stop light, etc.....not stealthy in the least :)

    both 458 & GT3 scream at 9k rpm

GT3 and GT4 are great track cars...I think a manual 991.2 GT3 would be the perfect DD and track car....a combination of my 2 Porsches...stealthy as they look like "normal" Porsches

Can't go wrong either way....do you have a Ferrari or McLaren dealer near you? If not then consider transport time and cost for yearly maintenance, new power warranty, etc..

Purchase price is just the tip of the iceberg for Ferrari owner$hip

It would be a hard call between the gt3 and 458 for me. I have a scud and a gt3, and I can't say either one is a clear favorite. Different cars, with a different feel. Love them both. The Mac would be a distant third. For me the scud is an excuse to go somewhere car The gt3 I can drive to work, and more places in general without worry. There's a lot to be said for that....

Always fun to see rennlist members in different forums!

I've been wondering how bad it is, 2x as bad as our GT3s? Can't be anyworse than a McLaren though not enough are off warranty yet.

Of the 458 Spider, Huracan and 991 GT3 I've owned, the GT3 has the most miles and has been owned the longest. The Guards Red with rear wing and exterior bits still gets a surprising amount of attention at an acceptable level.

It is a car I drive everywhere including grocery store, movie theater, and dinner with wife.

I would always worry about parking or valet with the 458 and Huracan. The GT3 is a more practical daily driver.

Agree. Owned the same three 458 (Coupe), Huracan, GT3 and also R8 V10+ in several years. GT3 is the ONLY one I regret selling.
