It always has been ridiculous to suggest Bottas would even match Lewis. Maybe in the future, but certainly not now. Bottas needs to concentrate on being good for the team, which so far he isn't.
Yep, Bottas hasn't replaced Rosberg yet. He is far from pushing Hamilton, and maybe it was unreasonable to expect him to do it immediately. Rosberg was motivated by rivalry, Bottas isn't. The future will tell, but he has only one year to prove himself.
The team that bags the WCC needs 2 very strong drivers. That is the way the game is played these days. The field is going to get too tight for just one team to have that much of an advantage. It will be about consistency if it isn't already. Two consistently very fast and flawless drivers are a must regardless of team. Let the fireworks do whatever they do, but mark my words that will be the cost of winning the WCC.
Agreed. Bottas was employed to replace Nico. That is, to have a driver with a contrary race approach to Hamilton. He does have that. Of course, so far he has disappointed as instead of being the solid part of the two he is the shaky one. I don't think he was expected or is needed to beat Hamilton in quali...
Vettel is performing well right now. End of last year Ferrari were implying he needed to up his game to receive a contract extension. Otherwise alonso could have gone back to Ferrari 2018? Imo I think he may partner Hamilton next year if merc lose the WCC to ferrari
Bottas is looking fairly ordinary. More likely Rosberg will come out of retirement and partner with Alonso at Merc
I think you are overstating the importance of the WCC to both Merc and Ferrari. Ferrari definitely don't give a stuff about the WCC. And yes I know F1 dishes out money based on your results in the WCC but both of these teams spend that much money every race weekend on custom made shoes laces ... ie. they don't need the F1 money, they are loaded. Definitely Ferrari races to win the WDC. The only problem with their number 2 driver at the moment is he is getting in the way of Vettel and not fast enough to hold up the Mercs ... a picture of an ice cream on the steering wheel might help Pete
Alonso in talks about 2018 Renault return? Alonso in talks about 2018 Renault return? > F1 News > Grandprix.com
There are only 4 factory teams; - Mercedes, UNLIKELY. Alonso wouldn't probably be wanted as long as they have Hamilton. - Ferrari, UNLIKELY. Alonso walked away from them, and they now have Vettel. - McLaren-Honda, where he is at the moment, which doesn't deliver the goods. - Renault, POSSIBLE. But their customer team is faster than them - Red Bull. The rest are customers. Really the choice is very limited for Alonso, and he seems to have ruined his career by leaving Ferrari to join McLaren.
Ferrari/Merc are out IMO. So that leaves Mclaren or Renault...I keep thinking that this Honda thing has to improve at some point but at the moment it just seems there's no light at the end of the tunnel for them...they're going from bad to worse! But Renault...I just don't see it either. Perhaps upon contract renegotiation if next years honda is still horrendous he should be excused for Le Mans as well if he wishes to do so.
Honda offers flexibility into other Motorsports and he still keeps his salary......Mclaren is yelling foul but who gives a fudge. Renault would have to come up slightly in the salary pay and Alonso would have to come down.....a compromise in the middle if you will. No flexibility with other motorsports unless they would be willing for him to venture into them????
"Beggars cannot be choosers" If he still wants to race beyond his contract, I should think that Alonso's market value has significantly come down by now, and even Honda wouldn't have to pay him that much to have him re-sign. Beside, he start being a nuisance for them ranting publicly about his car. I think Button isn't missing the aggravation one bit. He will come back for Monaco as a social event, and probably will be watching the race from a yacht after his car has stopped during the formation lap!! McLaren-Honda is becoming a joke. I never thought I would say that one day.
