The point of making a joke about another nation is to get a reaction.

    It is not innocent.

Or maybe the problem is that we think to much about "nations" recently...After decades of globalization people tend to think more nationalistic than ever...Just look at the recent polls
If you as an individual are not able to stand above a simple generalization about your fellow countrymen then maybe that says about as much about you as it says about the person that did that generalization...Think about it, there are two necessary to make a story out of that and to many conflicts have result in history of misguided pride ;)

All this fuss over nothing. It was a pretty lighthearted comment.

    Let's please move on.

    All the best,

Yep exactly...IMO their reasoning behind it can't be anything other than Verstappen having done so incredibly will jumping from F3 to F1. But then....you can't buy talent ;).

Yeah for his sake, I do hope he turns it around, but after the amount miles he's done in the car (far more than publicly known), he really already should have. Maybe it's a case for getting used to a new car, but then if that's the case...it really shouldn't take this long.

Okay I accept Stroll currently is not up to the job, but why is there not a thread about Palmer.

The guy is an embarrassment. Even on warm up laps he appears to be struggling to control the car. Who is funding him? His dad is not that rich is he?

    ...
    7 27 Nico Hulkenberg RENAULT 1:31.057 1:30.169 1:29.842 15
    ...
    10 30 Jolyon Palmer RENAULT 1:31.458 1:30.899 1:31.074 15
    ...

Both Renault drivers are slow (yes I'm no Nico fan) but Jolyon should not be in F1 IMO.

I think you guys should relax a bit. When you look at the gaps between other's Stroll has shown quite decently. Palmer, Magnussen, Sainz and Ericsson had larger margins (partialls twice the gap) and none of these are new to F1. As most people acknowledge, Stroll has immensely overdrive the car recently and he looked much more planted here.

You have to deal with it that Stroll is part of F1 this year. Let him have a couple of proper race weekends and then you have a proper foundation to judge his abilities as towards what he can deliver and what potential for development he has.

    Close together were
    Hami - Bottas (Q3 0.02s)
    Kimi - Vettel (Q3 0.31s)
    Ricci - Max (Q3 0.15s)

    In Q2
    Massa - Stroll (Q2 0.49s)

    Others
    Hul - Pal (Q3 1.23s)
    Gro - Mag (Q1 1.21s)
    Kvy - Sai (Q1 0.58s)
    Weh - Eri (Q1 0.55s)

Hulkenberg is slow? He qualified 7th, first car outside of the three top teams.

My view on Hulkenberg is that if he was really any good a top team would have hired him by now. They haven't so he's not going to make a mark in F1.

Stroll atm is just very slow, and certainly has nothing to do with not having enough time in the car. Do I feel sorry for him? Not really...he wasn't ready for F1, and they very obviously and for no apparent reason, rushed it. They easily had the money, should've done a few quiet tests instead of bleating about being signed prior to testing. I know that from the early tests he just wasn't much good and improving as he should, and they've done a lot of testing. Couldn't call it off anymore, either, too much noise has been made and calling off his drive would send the question marks throughout the racing world and outside of it.

Stroll ATM, I love it. He seems to be struggling with car from the onboard shots, looks like his speed is OK but his racecraft has yet to be seen.

I thought that he was Toto's first choice for Rosberg's seat but he was unavailable?

    Must be Palmer's winning personality.

    Mr. Excitement LOL.

Seriously, I've seen cancer patients more excited for chemo than this guy is for the race.

Ehhh - I don't think this helps make you case honestly. I would guess Palmer and Magnussen will be out of F1 soon. I don't think much of Ericson either.

Sainz is very good - he had car trouble I believe.

The amount of miles he's done makes him one of if not the most experienced driver with Hybrid F1 cars. That's real seat time, not simulator.

Yep, but I've been fairly vocal about Palmer and especially Ericsson over the years as well.

I'm sure he'll get better but , hey, he's a pay driver. He's this season's Diniz. Williams knew it and signed him. I thought he'd be closer to Phil but the season is early. I' m certain Phil is driving better knowing he is finally crushing a teammate. Nice , well, kind of in an Allen Berg sort of way, to have a Canadian competing. He' s bound to have one good race somewhere this season.

It doesn't. There is no relevance to current tech with a two years old car (now 3).
They can't bolt on new stuff. All this does is give the driver a little more experience on driving an outdated vehicle. There is a reason why NO ONE does this to get 'better into the rythm'. If anyone does any extra mileage outside the GP weekends than that's the simulator.

Likely the most significant outcome Stroll achieved with those tests was that Bas has extra ammunition to spit venom.
