Of course there is relevance. He's coming from an F3 car which is a universe apart from F1. Having tons of testing is a huge advantage. Even the current F1 drivers didn't have a lot of testing seat time in those cars. And race weekends or the official tests are a lot different than private testing.

And your second statement doesn't really make sense. So you are suggesting Williams and the Stroll camp just decided to waste money on testing for no reason?

The bottom line is that Stroll had been given the best of everything his entire career. If he fails, there are no excuses to be made.

Let's be honest, Formula 1 drivers generally don't come from working class families. Stroller's own Daddy Warbucks is above even the elevated norm, and gave little junior every opportunity and privilege to make sure he went somewhere.

But F1 can humble even the richest corporations and individuals in the WORLD without breaking a sweat. So Stroller will have to either put up or shut up. He won't hang around F1 for long if he sucks wind...

Whom do the expert racing folks here think was responsible - or more responsible - for the crash? On the replay, looked almost like Stroll took the wrong line into the turn, then cut too sharply, only to be slammed by Sainz who clipped the corner more closely. That's also how Sainz described it on the radio, saying Stroll was driving like he didn't see Sainz. Stroll contended he saw Sainz coming up in his mirror, but that he had to turn at the end of the track, and Sainz shouldn't have tried to take him. The camera slo-mo from the outside makes it look like clearly Sainz's fault. The onboard from Sainz's car looks like it was Stroll's fault. Curious what the people here who race or know racing protocol think.

In regards to racing protocol, i was always taught it was up to the one doing the overtaking to make a clean pass. Period!

It depends on your reference. With reference to other F1 drivers, no advantage. With reference to other first time F1 drivers, perhaps.
Of course they don't. Because they wouldn't benefit. Ferrari, Mercedes, RBR, don't tell me they wouldn't have the money to get their 2014 cars working again, ask Pirelli for a bunch of show tyres and go out. No problem. It just benefits no one.

yep. he got the 'hang of it' under a bit more realistic conditions perhaps then in the simulator. Maybe something like hoping: every bit helps.

I couldn't care less where he finishes or what his dad does with his money.

Sainz for sure, he should have backed off a little .I didn't hear what the stewards said about it.

(Btw i do not consider myself an 'expert racing folk',its just common sense)

How dare Sainz hit him when Stroll was running comfortably in 16th place. :)

80/20 this. Sainz' fault for sure but come on Stroll...a tiny bit of awareness would've avoided this mess, too!

Like last week, he's quite keen on saying ''this is MY corner'', today he said something near the same...yes today you had more right to the corner, no doubt...but the point is to also finish races, and sometimes a tiny little bit of compromise would've kept him in the race.

Sainz being a pitstop (minus half a second...fair enough!) and on brand new tires would've passed him in T4 anyhow.

But yes Sainz largely to blame.

When I watched Stroll's post race interview I said to myself: "I've seen older people working at In and Out". :)

Personally,... I'll give Stroll to mid season to regularly beat Massa. If he's still regularly 0.5 sec/lap slower than Massa,... Get a fork.

As long as Big Daddy Lawrence Stroll keeps writing huge checks, Lance will be there. He'll finish the season for sure.

Sainz fault IMO. You see idiots right out of karting do this a lot and then make the same excuse.

Never establishes any position, dives to the apex, car hits him..."oh he turned in on me!"

    I expect better from Sainz.

Maybe Stroll could have avoided him, but I would guess he checked his mirrors before turn in, said "nah he won't try it/get here", then turned. Surprise.

Yah disagree - seat time helps everyone.

You are missing the point. They didn't have that much seat time in those cars testing even when those cars were the current tech - because testing is so limited and controlled.

If you think driving a very fast F1 car (a few years out of date) when only coming from F3 does not benefit the driver, then you simply don't understand driving. There are tons of things he can learn in the car. Everything happens faster, the tires are different, he can practice pit stops, practice adjustments, race simulations, different setup changes and their effect, improve his brain to adapt to the faster decision making, get use to the data systems and working with his engineer; mechanic; race strategist, understand the seating position and controls, etc etc - I can go on and on.

That's funny man. Every bit helps, but it was a waste of money. That makes less sense than the previous statement. The max G's most of the sims can do is like 2-3g's for one thing and only in certain directions to my knowledge. They are amazing; but still not the real thing. But he also had access to massive amounts of simulator time in F3, while most of his competitors did not.

Confused - neither do I. I just said that Stroll has had the best of everything, so you can't blame the environment if he fails. One might question the decision making on his career advancement though - which is what Bas and I are doing here.

Williams is loosing many points thanks to Stroll..and popints equal money....they have apretty decent car and Massa is doing the best with it..but he can´'t fight alone against cars from other team.
