Williams must have know what they were taking on when they accepted Papa Stroll's money, don't you think?

All that Papa Stroll is doing is destroying his kids career. Being known as a complete and utter disaster in F1 doesn't get you into any other formulas. He will be earning precisely zero at Williams.. He has not future in minor formulas - so zero earning potential there either. Not a good place to be put by an over ambitious dad. I actually feel sorry for the kid.

You may have a point there.

Baby Stroll wouldn't be the first kid whose life was ruined by an over-ambitious father.

    Sad really ...

Then why does no F1 folk cruise around in old cars when they have some spare time. You think they overlook a great opportunity for seat time?

That's exactly what I said. He may well benefit compared to someone else coming from F3 to F1. No benefit in refernce to current F1 drivers.

Again, why, otherwise, don't you see current F1 folk taking old cars for a spin. Either because they haven't thought of it (doubtful) or because it doesn't make sense (rather plausible).

+1 to all of the above. I like Sainz but he is driving with a monkey on his back--Max.

Anyone who has 3 years or less is now being somewhat compared to Max. Stroll, Sainz, Ocon, Wehrlein etc. Tough tough competition.

    True.

Just goes to show what an incredible talent Max is. This year he will destroy Ricci.

Agreed....Max sets the standard given his age, talent, aggressiveness and awareness on the track. Everyone else (same age) coming in is average.

Yep I rate him highly as well. Quick guy. Also scored in every GP so far this year. Solid so far against a very strong teammate.

Because current F1 drivers are not coming from the most advanced F3 team in history. They also already have the seat time, a point you seem to be missing.

No idea where you got this weird argument about current F1 drivers testing in old cars. If you read what I wrote it is that the testing he is getting on the older cars is of even greater benefit to him than when F1 drivers got the opportunity when the cars were new and current. As I explained this is for several reasons.

    Sheer cost.

Track rental, substantial team needed to run these cars (many more than V8 cars etc), shipping team + car and equipment over...it adds up to **** loads very, very quickly. And that's before you've run a meter in the car

The teams that take on young drivers generally don't have this amount of money laying about to take a gamble on a kid and send him on F1 drivers training camp all on their dime...

This could happen. I think Max is mentally stronger.

Maybe papa Stroll will buy Force India at a fire sale price, or how about a Mercedes 'B' team?

Yep, Ricci is supremely talented, and he definitely has his hands full . Verstappen is so comfortable in that car now. Last year he made a few costly mistakes (though mostly recovered from them during the race) and had an expensive car failure that cost him dearly in the points. I think after Brazil especially he's been so comfortable.

He's under tons of pressure though. All the Dutch have already named him to be champion this year. Obviously most of them are new ''fans'' so not very knowledgeable...my mate was in a bar watching the GP, as soon as his brakes failed they switched the TV off. Apparently quite a few comments how he's just emulating his dad, who held a reputation (in Holland...) for visiting the gravel trap often.

Yep I can see it...Brazil 2016 fresh on everyones mind (especially Ricciardo), and not even 10 laps into the Chinese GP and Verstappen who started at the back is passing him. That must hurt.

Ricciardo is a very strong guy mentally, but that must hurt. He's got to be thinking ''how the **** do In beat this kid?''

IMO there is no shame in being beaten by the best though. He's putting up strong fights to Verstappen, whatever happens he can hold his head high.
Wouldn't be at all surprised actually.

Did Max really have a brake failure btw in the race or was that just execution and an excuse?

Was just going to ask this as well? There are vids that show him locking the tires up but then they release.
