New Dino announced?

They claim they made 2 in manual. But the California is front engine. I think it has to be mid engine to be a Dino which is why they called it "A California".

The California was originally a Maserati then transformed into a California. It's purpose was to create more a lower priced 2 + 2 Gt into the line up like Porsche.

 

Exactly. Who cares what it's called?

When people say they want "a new Dino" what they really want is something they don't make anymore.

Should they? IMO, yes. But we won't see it. What we will get is some kind of hybrid thingy with 2+2 seating that people 7 feet tall can sit in comfortably, has a great stereo and badges on the side.

 

How about LaDino?

 

Ferrari could learn something from Porsche...

What's interesting is that more 911's are sold than Caymans. You would think the lower priced car would outsell it but it doesn't. Not by a lot, but it does outsell it.

 

There are several statements here that I don't agree with (especially the engine thoughts).

However, when I bought my Dino in 2001, it was still a car that was frowned upon. I didn't care.

It was often called the "Girl's Ferrari".

I was definitely the butt of jokes, but I also had a Testarossa, so that smoothed a bunch over, but if I said I had a Pantera, that would have also worked.

I don't hold grudges, and have made great friends in those years, but the Dino wasn't even looked upon in a good way.

Ummm no..you are cherry picking.
Porsche appears to listen to its customers...that is why I have a deposit down to spec a 911 GT3 with manual...4L NA engine...if Porsche can do it then so should a Ferrari be able.

It's why I turned down a 488 spider allocation and bought a 458 spider instead.
Ferrari can have everything be turbo and hybrid and I'll never buy a new one again...

 

With respect to the 355 which is great, a 360 manual could also do the job

 

In fairness, there are far more 911 variants than Caymans/Boxsters and the 911 has a deep history.

 

The alfa 4c (assembled in Modena) with a Ferrari badge and the Giulia quadrifolio v6 (ferrari engine) would be an incredible car with Ferrari roots, just like the original Dino.

 

I really question whether actual buyers want a new "Dino." The Alfa 4C, IMO, is a great little car, but they struggled to sell any after the initial wave of buyers. It is exactly what a Dino should be: small, low, light, quick, loud, raw, and barely anyone besides the most hardcore buyers even cared.

Just like with manuals. Everyone demands sports cars be sold with manuals, but look at the 911. A manual is an option and no one buys it. Dealers will only get in manuals on special order.

The hardcore car enthusiast is a dying breed. Bigger, cushier, quieter, is what sells now, sadly.

I agree for the most part, and I would gladly buy a 4c. I think the 4c is a great example of an affordable italian sports car, but it is still too expensive for the average person. The 4c is very "Dino" like but won't reach the masses until the used ones drop a little more. By then, it will be too late. adjusted for inflation the Dino would be just under $40k

we won't see that from ferrari, but maybe from alfa?

 

If they made a Dino and styled it accordingly (*ahem* I love my 360 coupe) they'd have enough men that lusted after it as a kid/teenager that they'd sell like hotcakes. My very good friend who is a surgeon says he would want only one Ferrari, a Dino, because that's the car he saw as a teenager on long island and made him fall in love with the brand.

I wouldn't be surprised if they painted a stripe on the hood and changed the color of the glovebox as a $25,000 option and called it a limited "Monza edition".. they'd sell every one.

 

IMO I highly doubt you'll see any rear mid engine Ferrari with a V6
More probably they will offer a detuned V8 in a different body just
like McLaren 570s

 

I suppose if this car goes into production it will be the most sold Ferrari.
Therefore it is going to exceed easily the limit of 10000 units per year which requires to adapt to European regulations.
Then it would only be justified if the objective of the company is to maximize earnings by producing more units.
In that case it is expected that in addition to the Dino finally produce an SUV and maybe a 4 doors car too.
