Where in this video does Vettel say anything about his start??? Seriously!!! Toil mentioned that Vettel admitted that he had a bad start so what the hell are you talking about with Coulthard??? Read the post before jumping to any conclusions!!!
Lesson learned today: just because someone says something doesn't make it true. Just watch the start replay ffs
I thought we have learnt this lesson a long ago from Toto and Lewis... But don´t claim things that are simply not true...like what Vettel said or said not! And you can watch the reply 10 Million times it does not change what Vettel said and this was all it was about.
The video shows that, as Eb110 suggests, and unlike Vettel's believe, his start wasn't actually as good as he thought it was. He initially bogs down and has to go defensive immediately, but by that time, Bottas already has the momentum on his side, picks up a brief slipstream from Vettel but then abandons it to just drive round the outside of Vettel in turn 1 and drives away from Vettel coming into turn 2. Eb110 is wrong when he says that Vettel admits he had a bad start. What he actually said in the post race press conference was (From: https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/headlines/2017/4/fia-post-race-press-conference---russia.html ) : Q: Sebastian, in reality it all came down to the start, didn't it? How was your getaway from pole position? SV: "I thought it was OK. [To VB] Was it bad, my getaway?" VB: "I had a little bit better one " And then Vettel goes on to say he had a good start etc., etc. The reality was, Vettel's start was okay, Kimi's start was awful (but he got away with it!), and Bottas' start was awesome!
You forget that toil doesn't think rational. You can even have an exceptional start but if the guy behind has the start of his live it can still be better. That doesn't make your's bad or mediocre.
Martin Brundle: Valtteri Bottas proves he's a fast learner in Sochi | F1 News Nice review of the race from Brundle.
So we are actually on the same side. I did not "defend" Vettels start as being brilliant but I jumped in when Toil started to make false statements about what Vettel said to make his "point". Nobody said that Vettel had a great start but it is the same bashing of Toil on everything Vettel does and this was allready the case with his first ban...And he is starting all over again...
Vettel's start wasn't poor. Coulthard does say ''bogged down'' but it's followed by ''ever so slightly''. And it really was ever so slightly. Bottas OTOH had a great start, and was able to slip stream passed. If Vettel bogged down properly Bottas would've been passed way earlier.
To really know that I would like to see an inboard of Bottas...when did he actually gained on Vettel as this is difficult to see from the front view? If he is gaining room right from the line than one could say that his start was clearly better but if he just gains once they are at speed it would speak for the "tow theory" and that the Mercedes simply outperformed the Ferrari with the slipstream down the straight. The inboard of Vettel does not show too much as it does not show how the start was compared to Bottas´ ones. Looking at it from the front it takes Bottas much longer to get next to Vettel than it does Lewis to get next to Kimi. For me it look like on the first meters Vettel and Bottas are about even in pace so there is not much difference in the quality of their start from the line...
Ask and ye shall receive: Start was slightly better than Vettel (he gained around a car length by his start), but slipstreamed easily whilst Vettel battled headwind. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VfP6gxXQywM[/ame]
Nothing Seb could have done...that straight played against him, even with a better start he would be in trouble because of the slipstream...
Thanks...so not really a bad start but not as good as Bottas. I guess Bottas would have catched him none the less...With a shorter straight he might have been able to cover the lead but not like this. On the other hand a shorter straight might have brought a deja vu with Vettel in the role of Hamilton and Bottas crashing in the back, so who knows what it was good for.
2017 Russian Grand Prix: Vettel Chases Bottas On Final Lap (cockpit view...and the finger gesture) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JzAk6XyCrQ&app=desktop I doubt Vettel could have done anything IF he caught up to VB but it would have been alot more entertaining.
God those cars sound like a slightly upset bees nest infected with the flu...... it's just not an exciting rousing sound. Love vettel throwing massa the finger, massa must've been taken back to his Alonso days when an angry foreigner in a ferrari is faster than him!
I agree, nothing Vettel could have done, even without Massa being there. Bottles had it under control by then.
I think with less headwind Bottas would've been alongside but not able to pass. Shorter straight similar.
Seb: "that's how it is with back markers" LOL Sebastian Vettel reckons Felipe Massa did Valtteri Bottas a favour, not once but twice, as they raced towards the chequered flag at the Sochi Autodrom. Opting for a longer first stint at the Russian Grand Prix, Vettel set about hunting down Bottas with his fresher tyres. ADVERTISEMENT The German moved into DRS range on the final lap as the two leaders navigated traffic with Felipe Massa, Bottas’ former team-mate, was the last backmarker they had to pass. Massa was quick to let Bottas through but made life a lot harder for Vettel, who had to pass him around the outside corners later. Vettel made his thoughts on Massa’s antics well known as he gave him the middle finger. Bottas raced to the victory with Vettel second, 0.6s behind. “He did cost me,” the Ferrari driver said of Massa’s antics. “First of all, he handed a very pleasant tow to Valtteri on the last lap, and I was in the DRS, which was tough enough to do. “And then he let him by and I don’t know if he knew there was another car coming. I don’t think, maybe. “Obviously Felipe did him a favour twice. Once handing him a pleasant tow and then he cost me a bit of time. “But that’s how it is with backmarkers.” Vettel: Massa did Bottas a favour - twice | PlanetF1 : PlanetF1
