Verell I had one done 7 years ago and all I can say is stick to the PT and don't skimp on it. I think it makes the difference no matter how dumb some of the exercises are. Good luck

LOL I can't tell you how many of my patients ask me why I make them do dumb exercises. In the past 20 years the joint replacements have really improved but what you get out of it depends on how hard you push your rehab in the first 4 weeks! If you haven't had any complications post-op with infection and such then suck it up and push as hard as you can! Keep going Verell and listen to your therapist ;)

None of the exercises seem particularly dumb, however, I'm pretty sure that the ones that cause the most discomfort are also the most beneficial ones(sigh).

Obviously a case of "no pain, no gain".

Yes, I've been very fortunate, no complications so far.

I'm absolutely amazed that there hasn't been a hint of leakage from the incision. With surgical superglue there aren't even stitches to itch!

"Surgical superglue", I love that, it's just superglue that costs 3 times as much as it purchased through a medical supply company... sounds like yellow box vs. generic part supplier!

Glad you are doing well Verell!

Medial super glue came out for combat medics

in the Vietnam War.....too difficult to try sewing when you're in a firefight, or under fire during evac. Also, you will have far less of a scar if you don't break it. I also used it in the field mortuaries. The original brand name is Aron Alpha. Normal super glue is also valuable for cuts and lacerations in civilian life...yes, it hurts like the devil, but it does the job. Just thought that you all needed to know this in your travels. Actually, there are significant chemical differences between hardware store superglue & medical grade adhesive:

    from: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2660042/

I do keep some of the small one time use superglue on hand for small cuts that might require a couple of stitches, but I'm careful to make sure I get the edges aligned & just coat it over the top of the wound. It does sting a bit.

My bad, just trying to make a yellow box joke...

I also use a lot of the "gel" variety of super glue for one of my other hobbies (glueing coral fragments to rocks), so I thought maybe that one was ok for human flesh. But the "gel" kind is just ethyl-2-cyanoacrylate (instead of the usual methyl-2-cyanoacrylate), so still not the same stuff as the medical adhesive, 6 carbons short!

Oh crap. Well it's mostly minor problems so Harbor Freight Superglue will still be used on most of my minor wounds.

We did have our German Shepherd spayed a few months back and the incision was glued together, no need for the "cone of shame"

Just an aside...As an embalmer for twenty years, I never heard a single complaint from any of my cases/clients. Sooo, I guess It's okay to use on the human body...in some instances. Jq.

It's been 6 weeks since my surgery. I'm now walking without a cane. My knee is still pretty stiff & prone to swelling. I start outpatient physical therapy tomorrow, will be going 2x/week.

Unobtainium is back in business: "On the shelf" items ship within 1-2 days.

However, Physical Therapy along with icing my knee down still consumes an amazing amount of time. So Repairs & "Made to order" items are still running somewhat slower than usual.

Verell- glad to hear you are on the mend. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

For what it's worth, I have an operational reel I would be happy to loan for reproduction purposes if anyone is willing to lend a strut for similar goals so Verell can make the whole set up.

I have everything I need to make the spring reel except for a mold for the back plate.
I have a mold for the top, and 25 custom spring reels.

The mold will take 6 to 8 hours of machining time, but will have to wait until I'm recovered from my 2nd knee replacement, so would be late summer or early fall.

I also have access to a complete strut, just need to make drawings & line up a machine shop to make them. Again, no time to work on this until after my 2nd knee replacement.

Unobtainium will be slow in responding to orders for off-the-shelf items, and made to order items may not be available for roughly 3-4 weeks beginning August 2nd. During September & October orders may take 1-3 days longer than normal.

I'm having my Clutch leg knee replaced & just won't be able do much work during my initial recovery . My assistant will do what he can, but he's only available a couple of days/week.

There are rumors out there that I'm semi-retired, or closed. Ain't so.

Currently I'm pretty well recovered from my throttle leg surgery, with little Unobtainium backlog so orders are being turned around a bit faster than normal.

I expect this to last until my next surgery on August 2nd.

Yes PT is continuing, working on restoring full flexability, I'm still limping a bit, but currently business is so light it isn't an issue.

However until about September 15th Unobtainium orders for 'on the shelf' items should ship within 2-3 days, and made to order items may take 5 to 9 days. During late September & October orders for 'on the shelf' items should ship promptly, & made to order items may

take 1-3 days longer than normal. Business should be fully back to normal by the end of October.

WHY: I had my Clutch leg knee replaced on Aug. 2nd & am not able do much work during my initial recovery & physical therapy. My assistant will do what he can, but he's only available a couple of days/week.

    Please plan your orders accordingly.
