Vettel has Mercedes pre-agreement?



Sebastian Vettel **may** already have a "pre-agreement" to switch to Mercedes for 2018.

That is the claim of well-known F1 media insider Leo Turrini, who is notoriously close to Ferrari.

Although leading the world championship, German Vettel - whose Ferrari contract expires late this year - is rumoured to be in talks with Mercedes.

"Of course they're talking with Vettel," said paddock sage Eddie Jordan.

Turrini, who publishes on his Quotidiano blog in Italian, agrees.

"It is no secret to anyone that after Rosberg's retirement, Mercedes contacted Seb," he said.

"During the pre-season test in Barcelona, Niki Lauda told friends confidentially that Vettel has a pre-agreement with the Germans for next season."

But Turrini said Ferrari subsequently surprised with its strong pace, and therefore could ink a new deal with the quadruple world champion for 2018 and beyond.

 

Leo Turrini won't be notoriously close to Ferrari if he keeps reporting unsubstantiated
rumors as fact on his blog.

It has taken some time but the Ferrari/Vettel relationship is now starting to pay dividends
and Ferrari should be taking every step necessary to be sure he remains with the Scuderia.

If Ferrari's news black out this season includes driver moves, unfortunately, rumors like
this will persist.

I bet Merc would rather sign Verstappen than Vettel…

Either way, if Vettel goes to Merc, Verstappen will be a strong contender for Ferrari. If Vettel stays put and RB doesn't perform this season (due to Renault PU issues), I'd expect Verstappen at Merc next year.

Complete BS. Seb is driving for the team all drivers want to drive for, the team his hero drove for, and after lots of work they have built the team up and are now as fast as Mercedes. He wants to be like Michael and bring Ferrari back to glory.

At least it confirms that Mercedes are losing patience with the muppet they've partnered with poor bottles. Basically it's Lauda stating vettel is better than elton, he'd hardly be hired to be number two to that fool

Yep, convinced. Alonso and Vettel are 2 completely different individuals. Vettel is extremely dedicated to the team and isn't one to jump ship.

IF Ferrari didn't have any pace this year again, I could've seen it to be true, but Ferrari has pace, they've made a huge improvement over the last few years. Vettel isn't stupid, and he wants the title with Ferrari. That was his dream (his actual dream, and not one fished out of the air when he signed for them), he's openly spoken about going to Ferrari when he was little, climbing on the fences just to see Schumacher test...this is years before he went to Ferrari.

 

As far as I remember, exactly the same lyrics were written about Alonso when he moved to the Scuderia!!

Also, Vettel already jumped ship once already ! LOL
