Finally had a chance to watch this. That red is very similar to what I have on my car and looks amazing on the FGT. Wow. Mark
As mentioned previously, this car is very true to its GT40 roots. When other manufacturers are making highly capable, but softer supercars, I love that Ford made a raw, race car derived, NFGT. Then again, I love driving my Kirkham Cobra with a manual rack and brakes. Setting aside brand prejudices, whether the GT appeals to you will depend on the purpose you think cars like this serve. "Everyday" supercar with comfy road manners? Raw race car with the accompanying mechanical racket? No right or wrong answer, just individual preferences. For me, the NFGT nails it.
I'm so glad Ford was so brave to Launch such a pure Race car. Can't wait to Drive the hell out of it. Though gives me sleepless nights to configurate it. BTW I don't See the NFGT as a competitor to 720S, 488GTO and Performante, it's in a class of it's own. Gesendet von iPad mit Tapatalk
That's awesome. Funny thing is it sounds like Carrera GT will be the more every day usable car. My friend who has one (and loves it) always complained to me that there are places he just couldn't take it because of clearance issues, etc. never thought we'd see a modern day brand new super car that makes the Carrera GT seem so usable lol! I commend Ford for not making it super usable. All the great historic super cars were inherently flawed in some way. Flaws are indearing.
I would not say the GT is less usable than the CGT. They each have pluses and minuses. GT has the same Getrag DCT Ferrari (and everyone else) uses, so it's an easy traffic car. No worries about wearing out a very expensive clutch on hills or in traffic jams. GT has significantly more minimum ground clearance when driven in the regular ride height. CGT is always ~3.4 inches so components are at a more permanent risk. GT is 4.7" when up and 2.75" when down, but the drop and raise is instantaneous so it's no issue. And the GT nose raises an additional 20 mm at the touch of a button, which it will do instantaneously and on the fly at low rolling speed. The difference would be storage space and cabin comfort. The CGT buckets are tighter than the GT seats but the cabin is obviously larger. CGT has a lot more storage space. GT could be more intimidating for people to drive in traffic though as it is much longer (~6in) and wider(~3in), as well as lower(~2-4in). Its ironic that the least GT super car made has the letters "GT" in it. I completely agree with you. This new Ford GT is unique in that Ford built a race car first and then did the minimum to make it run on city streets. The "flaws" it has are echo's of its race engineering. F the trunk, F the interior space, F the seating position and adjustability, F the quiet exhaust at highway speeds and don't talk to me about "golf clubs". Because of that, its very unique in today's world. And, kudos to Ford for doing it. Now, it may be a pretty awful car to run around town and people may say they need more "GT" for their half a million, but I think if you want that just buy a Lexus -- or a 488 or Mac 720s (which a lot of people will do). IMO, a lot of people say they want a race car for the streets. No they don't.
Very true. Pseudo-macho car buyers like the appearance of being hardcore, but woe be it to the manufacturer who dares to sell a supercar with seats lacking vibrating ball warmers. Fortunately, there are still some of us who think gas gauges and exhaust pipes that don't cause disfiguring third-degree burns upon vehicle exit are luxuries.
Storage, cabin sound and tightness of interior would make it seem less usable imo. In CGT you can always take the roof off and the sound would never get tiring.
I drive my CGT a fair bit. I can't say it's real "usable". Driveway slopes are a headache (no front lift system) and "auto roll" in first gear is a bit quirky for some folks. You leave a stoplight like a granny. After that...it's all good with the sound of that V-10. As for the NFGT...it has a front lift system and you can run the DCT in full automatic when puttering around town. I'm 6'4" and I suspect the NFGT will be tighter than the CGT. Porsche definitely makes cars for tall people.
I will most definitely take my Ford GT to the track when I get it. I think a LOT of owners will. The whole mission of the car, to me at least, was to win at Le Mans. I took my MSO HS and P1 to the track this week and they weren't the only ones there. There was another MSO HS and two other P1s, a 918, and F40 and a Carrera GT. All of those cars are worth more than the Ford GT and the owners were tracking them just fine. This was my first track day in the HS but my P1 is a veteran of many track days regardless of the fact it's worth probably 4 times what my Ford will cost. If you're buying the new Ford GT and not taking it to the track you're cheating yourself out of the experience.
What type of track day was this? I have rarely seen such cars pounding around the track, much less that many at the same event. It's nice to hear of people using these cars as they were intended. Mark
True. But aside from making Shmee $1M in one year after he sells it, most of these will never see extensive track time.
I tend to agree. I fear most will live in climate controlled garages with the occasional drive to C&C. Mark
so basically like every Ferrari? Andy Frisella got his today...custom Lamborghini orange (aroncio borealis or however its spelled). looks good. https://www.instagram.com/p/BUFWTcGjdqP/?taken-by=andyfrisella
I'm kind of suprised it's only a "little" quicker than a 675LT on the track. I also don't really understand why it's somewhat compromised on the road but still heavier than a McLaren. Is it possible that because it was a race car first, it needs design elements that simply can't exist on a road car and therefor you have less than ideal trade-offs, such as needing the heavier hydraulics/aero implementations?
Doesn't it have an enclosed full roll cage too? Thats got to add weight. And its a pretty big car. Amost like an aventador
