Some kind of bearing noise. Disconnect the accessory belts one at a time. Could also be the cam belt idler bearings. When were they last changed ? Very clean motor BTW !
3' of hard clear plastic hose, put one end in your ear and touch the other end to engine parts. Stay away from the exhaust and really hot parts. My Indy mechanic found a single leaking exhaust gasket in less than 5 minutes. I listened and stared for hours with a metal stethoscope. Cheap and you might get lucky. Be careful of moving parts also.
And therein lies the problem of diagnosing anything from a sound recorded on bad equipment replayed on Chinas best 8 cent sound reproduction equipment and 3 cent speakers on a computer.
Well that kind of sums it up. Best to flatbed it to a talented professional rather than risk an implosion, I'd say. D
As in valves hitting pistons ? I don't thinks so, or the motor wouldn't be running that smooth. Revving the engine sounds normal, except for all that noise. Seems loudest near the water pump.
I suggest you remove all the accessory drive belts and run the engine for a maybe 60 seconds at a time and then waiting for a couple of minutes before repeating. If there is no change then my assumption is the valve train. The type and frequency seems about right for valve train. Lower end noises like crankshaft present themselves when the engine blipped, connecting rod make a racket upon deceleration, piston slap is usually when the engine is cold before the pistons grow to there round shape. It may be a collapsed hydraulic tappet which when collapsed has a large clearance between the nose of the cam as it rotates. There are differing opinions on whether this is good for an engine or bad for an engine. Some think it's snake oil, while other think it's great. I would try some engine cleaner for a short while to confirm the problem. If it still persists I would remove cam cover and inspect the clearances and possible the cam to access the lifter tappet that may be collapsed. I hear the tappets can get varnished from infrequent oil changes and the oil get diluted with some level of fuel and deposits on surfaces within the engine.
How long have you owned the car? In 32 years of ownership I hear strange noises every time I start my 308, while driving, just before I shut it off. I've learned that that's what they do, or what we imagine they do. Not saying there isn't anything wrong with your car but if you freak out every time you hear an unfamiliar noise you will become paranoid very quickly.
No. Just valves clattering. If there is a squeak or (bearing-like) whine, I can't hear it. Sorry for any confusion.
Again, verifiable by a stethoscope, plus often we see signs of excessive oil behind the pulley(s). Sometimes the play can only be felt after removing the drive belt.
