Villa d´Este´s quality of cars of the last few years is declining.. It is not what it used to be.

I concur. (Concour?) Difficult balancing act when backed by a major manufacturer like BMW, giving them value for their sponsorship while also spotlighting other marques.

BMW was already sponsor for a long time when it was still good...so I would not blame them!

I don't think it's BMW's fault. I hear Simon Kidston runs the show now, and to be honest, even if the guy has a great reputation and seems to be a great guy, I'm sure there are commercial factors beyond sponsorship that dictate who gets in or out. I once read a post right here on FChat, it may even have come from Mr. Massini himself but I can't remember, that alluded to Kidston's influence in this 'decline'.

EDIT: I guess BMW is to blame, too. Read more here: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/144735831-post66.html

Thats the base of my thinking that BMW is in some way culpable.Never said they should be blamed or they are at fault but for all the reasons mentioned by MM, hence my original claim that it must be difficult to balance the sponsors needs with the needs of paying guests. FWIW there are a handful of new concours established each year and at least one or two of them (Royal Concours and Schloss Bensberg are two) are aiming to surpass VDE. Maybe the future entails VDE becoming a BMW owners club event.

Wait a minute. Ferrari celebrates their 70th anniversary this year and the Villa d'Este Committee brings these cars? Seriously? I hope this is an error or that there are some decent cars that are worthy of Ferrari heritage.....

A Daytona (or 365 GTB/4) rebodied for Luigi Chinetti. Early owner Dan Ward used it as a daily driver back in the day, and then took it to LeMans where it was a dns as a result of a skirmish between Chinetti and the organizers.

IMO much more likely that BMW will either end sponsorship or jump ship to one of these others before that ever happens, leaving VdE to rebuild itself.

One thing you can't change - or devalue - is its loction. There are few places as incredible as Villa D'Este to put on an event like this, which is why I still dream of going.

Plus, I like the modern concept cars...heh

It is also a dream of mine to attend one day.

I have to take all your word to heart that there are some factors reducing the experience. I also would have thought there would be even more of a presence for Ferrari's 70th anniversary.

I think the companies do understand that their heritage is a big selling point. But I wonder if they collectively realize how important it is that they stick together. The old cars are now part of history. They should take a more gentlemanly approach. JMHO.

I was at Villa D'Este last year. Wonderful hotel with great views & service.
However, after an hour or so, I was finished looking at the cars.

I think it is a long way to go just for the car show. If you go for a vacation, then it is a good addition. But, just for the car show----- I will not do that again

Edmond is right it's a shame to not have more Ferrari in the 70th year. A missed opportunity.

On a happier note, I saw a lovely Ferrari trio driving through Cernobbio today, a 330GTS, a 275 GTS and a Dino GTS. Interesting to the see the two soft top V12 sister side by side but the Dino in silver = Bella!

It's not just the cars being displayed it is all the cars that are brought by the attendees in one of the most wonderful locations in the world. Alright I'm biased as we came two years ago to visit for the car show and moved here to live last year....

Another Ferrari to be shown next week at VDE:

250 GT LWB California Spider Scaglietti Prototype, chassis #0769 GT. This car has been perfectly restored by Mark Allin's Rare Drive, Inc., of East Kingston, NH/USA, and shown January 2016 at the Palm Beach Cavallino Classic and in August 2016 at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elégance.
Here's a rare factory color photo of this car from 1957, taken in the Botanical Gardens in the City of Modena. Original color was and is today Amaranto.
