Eh? Corvette won Le Mans in GTE Pro in 2015...and Daytona and Sebring.

 

Ferrari build quality is ok but below German makes.

He isn't taking a shot at either. He's stating a fact. Not to take anything away from the 488, but the 488 components and build quality pale in comparison to the NFGT.

Dave, post the comparison pictures of the 458/NFGT undertray and control arms.

 

It's not really a shot.

Quick look behind the wheels of the 458 and FGT that live 15 feet from my desk. This type of comparison can be made throughout the car. The GT apart is pure jewelry. It's much more impressive apart than it is together. The Ferrari is the reverse.

Which one is more "Corvette-like."

 

The new Ford GT build quality is stunning. I'll reserve judgment on a limited edition Vette until they make it. Obviously however a 80 grand Vette will be no where near the quality of the new Ford GT but also not near a 488 either.

 

The "new" mid-engined Corvette has won nothing ... yet. Heck I don't believe it has even been built yet (?).

There is a prototype they are testing that I've seen pictures of out there.

The current version has the front engine so far back that it is quite well balanced.

Improving the balance with a true rear-mid-engine seems unlikely to hurt performance.

 

Of course it's a shot - LOL. Just be honest ; )

Corvette build quality is terrible. They paint the panels individually and assemble the car out of pieces. Massive, horrible orange peel and paint defects and non matching panels. They don't even clear over the tape lines when they do the exposed carbon fiber/paint look on the hood. There is a raised tape line...hahahaha. I mean the car is a monster; especially for the price. But take 10 steps back when admiring it.

 

Corvette paint quality is terrible no doubt, but I'd pick the Chevy over the Ferrari every time for mechanical reliability.

I had a Corvette C7. I had the $1000 upgraded metallic. Without question the worst paint I have even seen on a modern car.

I was embarrassed by it when people looked at it. Complete orangepeel of the worst kind. The orangepeel as so bad I was afraid to color correct it for fear of cutting through the paint.

I looked at the rear view mirrors which were painted in the same color. They were good --- no orangepeel. Then I found out the mirrors are made and painted by an outside supplier, not Chevy.

But the real proof is GM is now investing in a brand new paint facility at Bowling Green. Obviously, they see the problems also.

It doesn't work that way. Team Corvette has been the class of the GT field for over a decade now.
That would be the same as saying none of Porsche's LeMans victories mean anything because the new one hasn't won anything yet.

 

I hear you, but there has never been a mid-engined Corvette before.

Not really. It's just the truth. The forthcoming Corvette is much improved in some traditionally poor areas.

If you want a shot, the F12 I had was at least comparable to Corvette paint quality. It was embarrassingly bad, and it wasn't the only one, as you can dig back in the F12 section for posts by Traveller about how laughable his was too. I've had a couple Corvettes and they definitely had amazing levels of orange peel, but those were $50k, and the F12 was comparably awful at 8x the price.

 

I have seen them both in the flesh. Not a chance Mayor. Especially if the LaFerrari was an Aperta. The Ford GT is much prettier in print than in person. Personally I thought it looked kind of cheap inside. But thats just my opinion.

No doubt some cars look better in print than in person and vice versa. 918 and Huracan are two examples for me. 918 can look a little boring in photos from some angles but in person it blew me away.

 

Of course it's a matter of opinion, but to me the LaFerrari isn't a beautiful car, whereas the GT is. I think the LaFerrari interior is gaudy and gimmicky. I like the sparse, business like interior of the GT. Personal preference.

 

Take the shields and the prancing horse of the LaFerrari and for sure the Ford GT would get more attention.

AND... I have seen both in person.

LaFerrari to me looks a bit fat. Sort of "puffy" looking. The Ford looks chiselled like a prize fighter.

Now, if you raise the engine covers, the LaFerrari wins hands down.

Was just going to post this. I enjoy a lot of Andy's podcasts but thought that video didn't do a great job showing off the car.

 

Yes I read that the plant is shutting down for 3 months to get this new facility up and running. Kudos to them for addressing this problem.

 

Its unlikely to be as intese to drive. The difference bwteen a street car thta can go fast, and a race car sort of civilised enough fort he street.

IMO these intense cars unless run on track are irrelevant or for boasting. In that sense the Mac 720 or vette if they are not as intense and accomplished as the Gt for multiple laps all day, then in my book they are lesser cars, regardless of what the paper numbers say for 1 flying lap.
