In Melbourne the "apex gang" and alike are fearless, they will break into your home, assault you, and steal your car/property, sadly if i call the cops, would be next week before they arrive, busy with speed cameras etc......

Under the VicPol's advice, we have had to take matters into our own hands, "Mr Hill said police were increasing patrols in these areas as a result and **urged residents to increase their home and car security.**"

    Nocookies | The Australian

They are running the odds, its only a matter of time before these thugs brake into a [armed] like minded law abiding citizens property and they wont be leaving the same way they entered, not going to sit around and do nothing, i urge all Victorians to be prepared, do what you have to do!

And what happens when the government tries to do anything about those things? Oh, you call them socialists and complain about nanny states etc.

well, much as I HATE to say it, we had one down her in FL a couple months ago. Cop was being assaulted by the side of the road by a guy he had pulled over. Armed citizen stopped, warned the bad guy SEVERAL times to disengage from the cop, and when he didn't he shot him, dead.

Passerby shoots, kills motorist assaulting deputy after traffic stop | Fox News

This is certainly the exception, not the rule, but in this instance, a licensed, armed civilian saved this guy's life.

This is about 20 minutes from where I live. Saw the story on the local news.

shot him 3 times? an unarmed man? You'd reckon once would have been enough to distract him lol

Sounds like he deserved what he got anyway, but his family might not agree....the cops family will though.

Well, sometimes it takes more than one shot to subdue a guy, and unfortunately the shooter didn't have a taser. Also not sure who had the cop's gun at that point, so better safe than sorry I guess.

I'm not sure I'd have the balls to shoot a guy that is only a few inches away from his victim for fear of hitting both of them (and I'm a really good shot) but in this case it all worked out. There's no indication of how close he was to the guy when he shot him and that'd make a big difference in the decision as well.

Shooter has already been cleared of any possible charges against him.

****ed up traffic in the area for 12 hours while they investigated, but hey, no plan is perfect.

I think one of the things Aussies don't 'get',is why do the bad guys have to be shot dead.
Surely if you've a licensed weapon, you have to have done an amount of firearm training.

I would have thought within that training would be how to shoot and NOT kill to relieve a situation.

No one 'deserves' to die without a fair trial.

    Nope.

Pennsylvania has no training requirement, just put in an application, and if you're not a convicted felon or have a restraining order out on you, you're in! Other states have more requirements, some have NO requirements at all.

I'm trained, both in how to use a handgun, and when to use one. My wife has drilled me on this, over and over. We used to sit in restaurants and she'd say, "What would you do if..." and we'd walk through a scenario in the restaurant. did the same at my manufacturing plant, at home, anywhere we might be that she thought I could learn something.

Shooting to injure is not in the playbook. If you fire your weapon, you're trying to kill someone, and injured bad guy is a dangerous bad guy, dead is dead, and no longer a threat.

And on this we'll have to disagree, sometimes the situation doesn't allow for a fair trial beyond your training and understanding the situation. In this instance it was clear, the police officer was yelling, "Shoot him" to the guy with the gun. Can't get much clearer than that.

    'shoot him "
    " shoot him dead "

Slight difference, but I don't think the cop cared which!

Only in movies is shooting to wound / incapacitate reliable. In the real world any gunshot is potentially fatal... given that fact and the point that one should only fire if in a life threatening situation shooting to wound is not a viable real life strategy.

    Scary.... But why Melton?

Overall, crime in Melton South increased by 11 per cent between 2015 and 2016, with robberies jumping by an enormous*1100 per cent in just one year, according to the latest data from the*Crime Statistics Agency.

Home invasions in the suburb have steadily increased since 2013, and jumping by 20 per cent between 2015 and 2016.

it was the first item that came up when I googled Melbourne home invasions.

here's another comment: "Home invasions are now happening at least a couple of times a week across Melbourne."

Gotta love all that PC multiculturalism

I understand why you posted it, I meant I don't understand why there are home invasions in Melton
