Did the SDL work before the problem? What I mean is, did they come on with key on, then go out when the engine started?
John, to be honest, I don't remember since I have not driven the car since last Sept. But I would have to say yes they did
I have heard anecdotal reports of 355s running with SDECU unplugged. I have no idea if they are correct or not but my experience shows that there is a bias voltage of 5v on that signal line when either the SDECU itself is unplugged or the TC is unplugged from the SDECU. The OP said the issue didn't switch sides so not sure this is the issue but I would put in known working SDECUs and TC and check the voltage outputs to be sure. It could be that simple.
Stupid fun for us sucks for the OP. What else are they incapable of doing? I don't want the next thread to be, "Threw a belt 300miles after new major. What do you guys think?" Threads like these make me cringe. I feel bad for Bob.
I am not worried about throwing a belt. These guys are pros and Kelly Moss is one of the biggest Porsche shops in the country. They are not used to figuring out the workshop manual which leaves a lot to be desired. Question what color is the trigger wire from the ECU to the ignition module?
We need to test the ignition module for the signal wire and ground. Does anybody have the pin out of the ignition module. As luck has it, I have the complete workshop manual except the page that show the ignition module.
If you have one side functioning and the other not but both sides basically the same, why not just test the wiring comparatively?
According to the diagram I posted on the previous page... there are two trigger wires from the ECU, but they go to the power module. The power module triggers the two ignition coils in the right hand coil assembly. Bob, are the technicians aware there is a power module separate to the ignition coil assembly on the 2.7? Caveat: I only had the blurry version of the manual which appeared to show transistors in the power module which were incorrectly biased and couldn't possibly operate the circuit. I've drawn transistors which may operate the circuit (experts?) Here's the same link ... Diagram for RH Bank The ECU has a number of power sources. I've only shown the one which is related to the ignition. I included the oxygen sensor because it has a common earth with the power module
Yes they are aware of the ignition modules. We changed them and did not make a difference. They say all 4 cylinders are dead They were asking what the pin out of the module was. I will give them your diagram. I saw someone in the archives said they had the same problem and was the fuse box wiring. I am going over tomorrow to see what is getting power and what is not. He said computer, coils crank sensor have power. He check d the crank wave signals were good.
Here's the full diagram, Bob... Right Hand Ignition System and the interface with the rest of the car... Interface Could you ask them if it's normal for an ECU to use an earth (ground) or a voltage to trigger the spark? If it's a voltage, I may have to amend the diagram. Thanks! Cheers.
Dont sweat it Bob you will be up and running in no time. What about the obvious plug wires are connected wrong and when switched modules they were still wrong.
Problem seems the signal from the computer to ignition module. Working side signal is strong on the 1-4 signal is very weak. Could this be a ground problem. .
Bob Two weeks ago someone had this very same problem on the same 95 355, and it came down to two 3 pin connectors on bank 2. One for Idle valve, one for Ignition Coil, and they were swapped. Not saying that this is your problem, just another possibility.
Connections are tight. On oscilloscope signal from computer to ignition modules very weak. Everything else checks out ok. The whole right side is dead. Getting a pin out of ecu tomorrow and will check wire by wire. Just wondering about grounds. I know the alternator and the rear chassis and a few others but not sure where they are all located.
Yes i remember that. The wires got switched When i say wires i mean plugs yes. I am with Mitchell very good possibility.
Here are the diagrams - the Module Pinout and the Module-Coil connections. The connections diagram is for another case (two separate coils) but you can take the the two "+" terminals of the coils as the middle pin on the Ferrari coil.
