I don't know if this applies to the 355, but on the 348 the fuses are at the passenger's feet behind a surprisingly heavy plate of steel. Easy to change to a piece of aluminum and save a bit of weight for cheap.
Any idea what the factory carpet weighs? Might be more than you think. Maybe replace with chintzy thin stuff depending on how far you want to go.
If you were crazy obsessive with time to burn you could try to figure out how to pull the gas tank and replace with a 5 gallon plastic jug. Trying to fit the fuel pumps could be problematic. Either way you'll want to calculate fuel needed for each trip and not carry any excess gas.
Speakers have neodymium magnets? Or how about (as you can see, suggestions get increasingly absurd as you progress through this note) tire weight? I'm always amazed how much those wide tires weigh. Do different brands of tire have significant weight differences, or are they all pretty much the same?
Then, of course, if you're really serious, take some Lasix an hour or 2 before you hop in for a drive...

The stock doors weigh a ton. If Jim thinks the car handles great now, just try decreasing the unsprung weight in the wheels and It will feel twice as good.

    Thanks guys!

Elliot, I'll probably take it in the fall so the temp/density altitude is similar.

Grant. My 1/4 mile times are from before the weight reduction, when it was still 3199.

Still slightly lighter than original because it had a Capristo/cats/y-pipe.

Yes I know I am hoping they get better.

Maybe you should send Ferrari the new official times so they could ammend your WSM accelarations because they are clearly not correct.

Paul, I will check that fuse box plate, thanks.

    Thanks Robb!

Grant I suspect it will be a little better. 2 tenths/2mph would be my best guess.

To be fair I would have to run my car with the stock cats/y-pipe/muffler to compare with Ferrari's official time. What do they show it as, 12.9? Probably would be close.

That area looks similar to me but I will try to take some measurements and compare the profile.

If it is different I don't think by much.

I've been wanting some kind of heat shield for the air boxes.

Thought about the challenge parts but they look like they are just fiberglass sprayed with a heat reflective paint?

I ended up getting a sheet of Zircoflex 3. It's triple layer aluminum and each layer sprayed with ceramic heat barrier.

Worth doing? Make a difference? No idea, but it's done and isn't super noticeable once installed.

Have you thought about adapting carbon-ceraminc brakes? They are what, 4kg ligher per corner?

The racing brake setup which uses ZR1 rotors is 5.7lbs lighter each front rotor and 4.5lbs lighter each rear rotor.

Then you have mounting brackets and bigger calipers, total weight loss would not be much but would have less rotating mass. (even then how much less polar moment of inertia with a larger diameter rotor).

    RB-CCB Kit - 380mm/380mm Carbon Ceramic Rotors w/RB Forged Aluminum Calipers for Ferrari 348/355 (P/N 2C14 & 2C48)

So, 14k for the above and they won't fit under the stock wheels.

Movit can make a set that will fit under the stock wheels but they are about 23k.

So yes, I have thought about it but do not think it's worth the cost at this point.

    Indeed, not worth the cost.

Some years ago I remember seeing a photo of a F355 with original calipers but with carbon-ceramic rotors from this company:

Sicom Brakes | Custom made performance

Since then they completely revamped their website and that F355 photo is gone. Perhaps it's worth contacting them and see what they have to offer.

Ha, thanks Dave, I can't take any (well not much) credit for the wheel.

It was done by Craft customs in Texas.

Problem was they used leather that was thicker than original. Soooo, the center of the steering wheel didn't fit anymore. Overlapped the wheel by 1/8in or so.

Since the wheel looked so nice rather than have them re-do everything in thinner material I cut the ends off of the horn pad, sectioned a piece out of each one and welded it back together.

That allowed room for everything to fit again with the thicker material.

The credit you deserve is the ongoing kick ass work you do. Everything is always done right - no hack jobs. You have amazing talent, Jim. Total respect.

Oh....and you can jump on a box 54" high too :)

Jim, the perforated leather on your steering wheel looks great.

Since you passed on the MOMO Competition wheel, I bought it and added a push-to-talk switch for UHF radio communication...

Jim was the 3 spoke section recovered on the wheel too? If so they did a great job matching the pressed circles.

Interior really looks stunning. Great job.
