So, I've done it again! I just couldn't live without a Ferrari in my life. I've considered this purchase for just over a year now. Watching videos of my old TR ended up pushing me over the edge. There's nothing like the sound of a Ferrari and I feel that the 355 just may be the best.

I have just completed a deal with a fellow FChat member on a 95 355 Berlinetta black on black. I'm sure many of you will know the car. It definitely has some things to be sorted out but overall seems to be a solid car. It's been at Roselli Foreign Car Repair in San Jose for the past week getting an extensive PPI done.

It is going to be my daily driver and I'll probably put about 5,000 miles on it a year. I'm greatly looking forward to this but first need to get my hands dirty with an engine out service and other repairs. It should be a fun project and look forward to getting to know more of you through the process. I'm glad to see there are quite a few hands on 355 owners on here.

I'll post pics when she arrives on Wednesday!

Black is a great color for 355s although, truth be told, they look great in most colors.

Congrats on the new toy. Enjoy in good health. :)

I've seen the car at Roselli's. I've had a lot of work on my car done there.

Congrats and best of luck getting it all warmed up and ready for the road--where it belongs!

Here she is fresh off the trailer! Arrived on Memorial Day. It was absolutely filthy so first thing I did was wash her.

Yes Geno, you are right about that! They make a good pair in the garage!

I'm already most of the way through removing the engine. Should be out by the end of the day.

I am now mid service and have a little down time while I wait to get the heads back form the machine shop so I figured I'd post some pics of the progress.

I have now dropped the motor, removed the heads, replaced water pump, replaced left radiator, replaced throttle cable, replaced the majority of the AMP junior connectors (injector plugs temp sensor etc) with gold contacts and new boots.

Still left to do: machine shop is currently doing a valve job, motor mounts, finish replacing AMP connectors with gold contacts, reassemble motor, install belts and degree cams, reinstall motor, and rebuild or create new rear muffler heat shield.

I have been very impressed thus far with how much info there is on the 355 on this site and others and how many knowledgable and sharing individuals there are here. Most of what I have done seems to have been covered pretty thoroughly but if anyone wants any more details I'm happy to elaborate on anything I have done.

Great work way to jump in!

What were the compression and leak down numbers at the PPI? Was there something specific that you were concerned with that led to the top end rebuild?

Great work. It would be a good idea to leak down the bottom end while you have the heads off.

Compression and leak down numbers were all good. What led me to this is that it was brought to Brian Crall in 2010 for oil consumption. He determined that the valve seals were bad and should be done at the next major. 17k miles of burning oil and its a little dirty in there! Not that much more work to do to be sure everything is tip top in there anyway.

Dave, is there any reason to do a leak down on the bottom end if I had good leak down numbers before? Or is this just to determine which end is the problem end?
