    Hi ALL,
I'm planning to do some alpine passes this Saturday, June 10th with a friend of mine, starting from Innertkirchen at about 09.30h... if anybody is intersted in joining our ride, just send me a pm or email.
we'll be in the region (circling around Gletsch from all sides...) for the entire day and evening - one may thus join us also elsewhere during the day...
    cheers
    David

Hi, can any of you explain how you wash your cars here?

From what I understand you are not allowed do it at home (true?) or at a paid washing bay as you are not allowed to hold up the bay while you hand wash or use your own products. They sometimes also have signs saying no buckets/cloths, etc.

Sometimes you can get just water out of these paid jet washers but mostly it has something else in it, like soap or Glanzer

    What is the solution?

    Thanks, Jeremy

Until I had a washplatz in my garage I used to take a bucket and soap etc to the spray each place and use a karcher. Never once did anyone complain or say anything. I never knew such rule existed.

    Where do you live?

    Canton Zurich but near Baar.

Ive done the same but then found that I cannot find a supply fresh water at the jet wash!

Out of consideration I would only hand wash in the jet wash bay at non-peak times.

Same for me, I would go early morning to wash bay. I don't think there are any in/near baar - I go there every day and have never seen one where you can wash yourself. What about inside your garage ? Do you have any drainage ?

There is no basic regulation which specifically prohibits the washing of cars at home.

But the water protection law restricts the car wash on private places. The law says: It is forbidden to introduce substances, which can contaminate water directly or indirectly, into a water body or to allow them to seep away.

Therefore it is problematic for example to use car shampoo on a private place if it is not known where the contaminated water flows. Therefore be always careful and restrained with the usage of shampoo.

But one is clear: cleaning the car at home with a high-pressure cleaner (Kärcher) is explicitly prohibited in Switzerland. The use of such a cleaner means that much more oils and fats get into the water.

Good that I use completely bio degradable foam and soap and have a proper drainage system.....

I'm also washing my cars in the garage. And like redcaruser mentioned if you don't use a high pressure washer and your garage has a drainage system there's no problem in doing it this way.
But it all depends on your environment. Before we moved into the house we were living in an apartment building and the neighbours were complaining even if I had the car on the battery tender...

This also reminds me of one law (not sure how well it's enforced these days), whereupon car washing (karcher?) was/is not allowed on Sunday's (or is it Sunday mornings?) due to noise pollution. I know some karcher stations would not function on a Sunday, but I haven't seen any issue with that for several years now.

I also washed my dads cars on front of their old home some 10-20 years ago, and never had a problem. I didn't use much shampoo to be honest, mostly to just rinse off any pollen and mud.

The ceramic coating on my 360 that I had done earlier this year has made washing very easy using the karcher stations. I just let the soap seep in and soften any dead bugs or mud, and then demineralized water to wash that off. It has never been this easy to remove dirt :)

And speaking of which, I need to go wash the car since it's a beautiful day and tomorrow it will sit amongst another +100 other vehicles at the dream cars day event. I want to make sure she's nice and shiny :)

So if i do they following its ok to wash at home ?
    1. Use biodegradable shampoo
    2. Ask permission from neighbours if on shared ground
    3. Don't use a jet washer

Or do you still need a water trap and treatment system?

Things are perhaps a little bit more relaxed over here in Welschschweiz and I have never seen, or heard of, any restrictions on domestic car cleaning in my home commune in the district of Nyon but all of the local lance/pressure wash stations have the 'lavage de moteur/chassis interdit' which appear to date back to 1975.

However, I did a quick search and found this canton Vaud directive - but I cannot help think that it is really targeted at commercial entities and not at private persons but it might explain the distinct absence of small businesses (mobile or otherwise) that operate in this space as it would appear that you would need the state-of-the-art environmental facilities of a carrosserie just to polish a car professionally!

    Hey Jeremy

You are going to be a better Swiss guy than 90% of all people who have been born here :)

I usually wash my cars in Obfelden at the Volvo garage Albin Herzog: Volvo Partner Portal | Albin Herzog AG, Ottenbach, Zürich
That’s where I met our members Simon (550) and Alexander (458) when washing one of my cars last summer.

There is a huge car wash center in Zug called Oskar wash: Autowaschanlage bzw. Autowaschstrasse in Zug One of the best car wash in my opinion. If you go on a Saturday morning you can see some Lambos, Bentley etc.

    See you soon

Mmm, maybe next time if I go work in Zug, I should check out that car wash :)

Anyway, Sunday's Dream Cars Day was rather nice! 120 cars, many of them Ferrari's, Lamborghini's etc...

A few Dino's, F40, Speciale's, F12, and more. Plus they served a bit of bubbly and we had a nice lunch too (buffet was very large at the Casino de Divonne-les-Bains, oysters, sushi, carpaccio, crab, hams, and much more. I was stuffed).

Plus it was very warm, and even the Police helped us around town what with 120 cars driving some 30km's from one spot to another :)

Photos appear on their Facebook and website (soon) if interested in seeing the full setup.

Next Swiss Ferrari meeting will be the FOCS Meeting, also at Lugano, from 23 to 25 June 2017. Expect approximately 25 very nice Ferraris incuding a 275 GTB Berlinetta Scaglietti and a 250 GT/L Berlinetta Scaglietti. Participants will visit the Clay Regazzoni Museum in Lugano and a superb Alfa Romeo Collection in the same area.

    Hi Markus

Of course :) Here's the photos I uploaded to OneDrive. I hope this works, I hear sometimes Microsoft will limit the number of connections made to publicly shared OneDrive folders: https://1drv.ms/f/s!ArFGcz6n6gq3tZ9IokF7KgqVZlVuLg

There's also the DCD Facebook page where they've posted photos (some which I didn't take, for example, I was just leaving when the Dino's arrived): https://www.facebook.com/Dream-Cars-Day-1516366188677619/

Give those two links a go, I was told they also post photos on their website soon (they're not there yet): https://www.dreamcarsday.com/

    Enjoy :)

    Best,

    Heikki
