    Curious if anyone has been?

We're spending most of June in South Africa/Bots/Zim and while we're in Cape Town have arranged for a tour of the Franschhoek museum as part of a day trip of wine tasting in the region. Pretty excited as they have an amazing collection of cars, including an Enzo, F40, F50, 275GTB longnose and 288GTO. Lots of others (200+ cars) but I'm most interested in seeing the F-cars.

Any suggestions, comments, or thoughts on visiting? Any other collections in the area to try and see? I noticed there's no "Africa region" section on the board, so mods feel free to move this to the appropriate section if this isn't it.

    Thanks!

I live in SA, and the FMM is absolutely worth the trip. The Rupert family have done an amazing job curating their collection and opening it to the public.

We, as the local Ferrari club (Sefac), have also had the privilege of hosting a few track days on their private race track - which is located on the same farm as the museum.

We've also got the club's 50th anniversary tour coming up in September, where we'll be stopping at the museum and spending some time on the track again.

We also have our club's annual concourse at Montecasino (casino and hotel complex) in Johannesburg on June 25th, if you would like to join!

We went several years ago when visiting several wineries in the area.

    Well worth the time.

Amazing collection and the setting, barns and grounds are stunning if you catch good weather.

I don't see the 250GT Nembo spyder and coupe in the museum list or photos but they were still there 5 years ago: does anyone know if they have been sold or are simply not part of the public museum and kept aside?

    Thanks in advance.

    best regards,

    Marc

I was in Franschoek 4 weeks ago and didn't know that the museum was there, even though I've heard about it. we did the wine tram tour (you need a whole day for it :D) and learned at one of the wine farms that their neighbour had lots of cars and his own race track. I asked the guy if the family name was Ruppert and he confirmed - then I knew it was that collection/museum. unfortunately we had no time left to go there as we did the Garden Route and had to leave the next day....but that's a reason to go there again :D (besides the good wine, beautiful landscape, great food and people)

if you go, please take some pics and share here :)

I am based in Cape Town.

As RossoNero mentions this collection is well worth seeing. I assume you have booked for the full tour which is quite special just for the scenery never mind the cars.

Depending on how much time you have in Cape Town there might be a few other car centric/Ferrari things which could be arranged, feel free to PM me.

Oh and RossoNero, I have never ever seen a track there ;)

So I visited here yesterday and it is quite a collection. Unfortunately only 3 of the 4 barns were open as Lexus SA was having a launch event and also had the track taken. I was able to view the pre-war, Ford, and Ferrari/Porsche/Aston cars. Very impressive and clear that they're all still driven. The 288 GTO, F40, F50, Enzo lineup was great, but the paint on each car is slightly different and not the same shade of red. It's most evident on the F50, which I understand his son wrecked and was rebuilt. It's clearly a different shade of red compared to the others and makes the rest appear more orange.

The wine was excellent as well. We also stopped at Tokara and Waterford, both nice stops as well.
