I decided to give my sticky interior a try on my own. In this first foto you can see how bad it is..[IMG]

I cleaned it with homemade alcohol 🤣 ( somewhere between 80-90%) the goo came off real easy.[IMG]

Installed. I'm happy with the result. We'll see how resistant to scratches it is in the future.[IMG]

Another thing that I found works is Oxi Clean (or the knockoff versions) on a toothbrush. You can scrub decently hard with the toothbrush and reach crevices and the plastic itself doesn't scratch.

Also takes off the goo with very little effort. Leaves the matte black plastic beneath in good shape. Paint or no paint afterwards is up to you.

Almost anything works when the coating is failed to that level - it's not really any magic.

When the coating is new, the only thing that works (without destroying the plastic) is alcohol 99% and various tools to scrap such as razor blades.

Yes, but the finish left after cleaning the panels is very vulnerable to scratches. So I think it needs some kind of coating anyway. At least that's what I experienced with mine. And the ashtray has a different kind of plastic, leaving a glossy finish.. so to me it needs a coating.

Homemade alcohol? Really? As in, distilled it yourself, or...?

I did mine the same way only I used store bought alcohol, then painted using one of the SEM bumper paints. I was a little worried about how well it'd hold up but I recently dropped the shift gate onto the plastic surround as I was trying to slip it over the shift lever and it didn't make a single mark (the paint is ~a year old or more so it should be fully hardened).

Took way longer than I expected but I'm really happy with the results. Got a pretty close match to the finish on the switches so it looks right, even if it's not exactly the same as original.

90% of the plastics used are ABS.

You are correct about that. The large flat surfaces especially. Not sure about the 348 but in the 355 so far I haven't felt the need for applying a finish over the smaller de-gooed parts. When I get the urge to coat them I'll likely send it to a true pro like dave.
