The other lesson here is that, although we lose a car to a crash or fire occasionally, the vast majority of the cars will be here when we are all long gone - plan accordingly ;)...

Yep!...that was my post from last year. I have been in communication with really a nice guy who's been helping Robert's wife sort out the car and title. I put in an offer on the car last year but the title was a problem as they couldn't clear it. Mystery solved now :)

@kandikoated - Echoing what many have said here, very cool story and "yes" you have a genuine Ferrari that has been lost in time. Indeed Robert was a man of great integrity and this is a one in a million story. Take a look at my post from a year about with a bunch of observations about the car:

Feel free to PM with any questions and may the car bring you many fond memories of Robert and many new ones of your own.

Which TSB? The only one that I've seen related to the A/C featured different vents.

I'm in complete disbelief myself gentlemen, but the story is indeed true. I was skeptical myself when I received the call from the PI and thought it was some joke. It actually took him about 30 minutes of explaining before it finally clicked who he was speaking of.

There was actually more to my post but part of it was deleted by the admin as I unknowingly broke some rules. I wasn't just telling a cool story, I did a google search on the Chassi and it led me here. There was a gentlemen that had some posts about this car from last year. He even had pics and had just made an offer. He said he would post the outcome but never did and the last post was in Sept of 2016. I figured he could give me some pointers and tell some me some awesome things I should know about this car. We'll they deleted all of that stuff because was I was asking for advice on selling, pricing and what he offered. Apparently, it's a no, no to ask those types of questions.

It's a beautiful story but unfortunately with the way of the world today some have made some really harsh comments. I am a woman ( not a guy as some had assumed) and of course I've been asked if there was some weird relationship or if he was a creep. He was a great person with an even better heart. He was a close friend of my parent's from as far back as I can remember and never once was he inappropriate.

There are still good people in this world....R.I.P. RM and thank you so so very much!!!

Why are you selling it? This is a great story and the Gt4 is a great fun car.

Well agreed. But they all need quite a bit of love and expense and this one will need some work to get it usable again. So if the lady is not up for all that then maybe it's better to sell it on.

But she should try and get at least a ride in it.

Well if you decide to bring it back to TX, Rifledriver who posts here is in Austin and Bob Norwood is in Rockwall and either of them can get your pony running again. Don't let your average mechanic anywhere near the car except to change the oil, and even then there are some nuances. It will need a mechanical "going through" expect to spend $10K if no major parts need replaced. Usually when a car is parked, there is a reason! Make sure they take a look at the A/C! (well some of the GT4s don't have A/C and are only good for cooler climates.)

@kandikoated - I'm familiar with your 308 GT4 as I was working with Rick to buy it from Robert's widow since last year but without a clear title there was no way to finalize the sale. The car needs a lot of work and if someone offered you $68k sight unseen I agree with you that this is an offer to initially dissuade you from entertaining other interested buyers. If you intend to sell the car then even if that offer was verbal, it constitutes a contract so tell them to wire you the funds ;) If you keep it, be prepared to invest significantly to get it running again.

You car has been in an accident at some point in it's life. The spot welds around the inner, rear wheel wells are only visible on the right edge of the right-rear side wheel well. The other half of the rear right side is filled in with bondo. The entire left side inner edge has also been covered over with bondo indicating a repair was done.

The rear window is not original and does not have the defrost and is a plain glass replacement. The rear seat headrests are also smaller than the original headrests. The upper frame is to be dented/bent on the left side under the air intake scoop and probably a result of the damage it sustained. Whoever repaired the car did a nice job as it's pretty straight but it was no doubt in a wreck. The exhaust is not correct for the car.

Based on all of this, I surmise that the car was rear-ended which busted the glass, bent the frame and totaled the exhaust. There is a lot of overspray in the front hood and engine bay so whoever painted it didn't do a very good job and the color is a brighter shade of red than it should be. They probably repaired the rear end and then sprayed the whole car.

You can see more on Page 1 of this post since the admin combined my post and your post into one. Same car different stories though. If you get it cleaned up, safe to drive and running you'll have a blast with it.

Feel free to PM if you want more info or want to chat about the car. Happy to share what I can. I'm still on the hunt for a 308/208 GT4 Euro Spec project car. I was really excited when I learned about your car as it's a 1974 which is the same year I was born and it was a great find.

Good luck with whatever direction you decide to go.

I don't mean to sound skeptical. As an owner of a solid driver '75 GT4 with less miles and no damage I'm very interested to hear what you are offered for your car in the condition as described by Noah_AMF. Good luck with the sale. If they pass on it, feel free to send them my way.

So I have to ask why merge the two threads. Yes they are talking about the same car but two completely different stories. Just muddies the waters if you ask me. Still a cool story and best luck whatever you decide to do with it Kandi!!

I agree you should try to get a ride in it even if you do sell it though. :)

I guess the $68k part was the part that was edited out? Don't know why, seems silly to me unless Kandi was offering the car for that price.

Spoken like a true bottom feeder trying to shake a vehicle from an inexperienced new owners hands as cheaply as possible a dissuade any other interested party from further examination.
This one gets my vote for ****** bag post of the year.
Owned a body shop for over 25 years. take this to a reputable repair facility to get answers. Not someone throwing out accusations on the Internet.

Oh, and throwing out a verbal offer does not constitute a contract. Good grief..

@308 milano - I find your claim of throwing out accusations ironic since that's exactly what you've done in your post.

#1 I find your "bottom feeder" remark to be offensive and unnecessary and hope you had one to many beers when posting your comment ;)

#2 I'm not trying to dissuade anyone from examining or buying this car. Who was I trying to dissuade when I originally posted these same observations about this very car almost a year ago in September 2016? I was also agreeing with @kandikoated's comment that the person who offered $60k+ sight unseen for the car may have been trying to dissuade potential buyers by making such an offer.

#3 I agree with you. Take the car to a professional body shop and have them go over the car. My father owned a classic car restoration and body shop and I've seen my share of damaged vehicles. I didn't merge my original post to @kandikoated's but take a look at page 1 of this post where I include the "Good", the "Bad" and the "Ugly" plus a bunch of pics for full transparency = bent frame, overspray in the engine bay and under the hood, no pinch welds on the rear wheel wells, replacement glass, replacement headrests, replacement exhaust...you don't have to own a body shop or be Sherlock Holmes to surmise that this car has been in an accident. BUT hey!...I'm a bottom feeder" so what do I know?

#4 If @kandikoated can sell the car for $60k+ then great. BUT...the car clearly has some serious sentimental value so in the case that she would want to keep and get it running I'm simply offering my observations so that she know's what she's dealing with. The engine isn't frozen but you'd have to drop some serious cash to get it running after sitting for 20+ years. Oh...and the tires are original but go ahead and drive on them and see what happens...why pay for new tires, they are the only thing that touches the road.

#5 If I were the so-called "bottom feeder" you claim me to be, then I would have already made an offer on the car and called the guy who I've been dealing from September of last year since I'd been waiting almost a year for the title to clear.

#6 Re: verbal offers can absolutely constitute a binding agreement: Is A Verbal Agreement Legally Binding? so take the $60k+ as a fool and his money are soon parted and go buy a 308 GT4 that you can drive off the lot.

If she can sell this car for $60k+ I have a car I want her to sell for me!!

I didn't get the impression Noah was bashing the car trying to ward off other potential buyers, but do still get the impression that he still wants to buy the car. So what? He was being pretty honest about what's wrong with the car.

@Jdubbya - Thanks for coming to my defense ;) I stand behind the offer I made Rick who represented Robert's widow when I saw this car last September and made my initial post with the "Good', "Bad" and "Ugly" observations.

Not all Euro spec. GT4 cars came with rear window defroster's, quick text to James at Euro Spares confirmed that. My own 1985 Euro Quattrovalovle also come with clear back glass.
The frame damage you allude to looks nothing more than a typical Italian weld that may have cracked, ( questionable from your picture) seen this before on some later 308 chassis and the tar coating coming off the frame.
Muffler damage can occur from pulling into a driveway. Puts into question your "rear ended hard enough to break the back glass "theory.
Fairly certain I've never referenced this as a $60,000 car but I'm also certain it's not a $20,000 either.
As far as throwing out a verbal offer and considering it a legal binding contract.. it's been recognized for centuries that crossing ones fingers behind their back null/voids any agreement/ Conversation.. go figure. :)

Best of luck Kandi and congratulations once again on Ferrari ownership! Get your vehicle checked out at a reputable repair facility, they will usually give you an estimate for free and with this little machine I'm sure they would do it just for the privilege of seeing one in the flesh.

@308 milano - Kandi's GT4 (#9606) is not a Euro Spec...it's a US Spec. You'll see the dash has the switch for "Defrost" but the rear window has no defrost. Also the "Saint Gobain" mark is not present on the glass. What's up with those mini rear seat headrests?...not original to the car and never seen anything like them. Trust me, that's not a weld on the frame, it's bent several degrees from straight..I've seen it in-person.

The biggest tell tale sign of an accident is the complete lack of pinch welds on the left rear wheel well. On the right rear wheel well the pinch welds are present only half way around.

When I spoke to Rick who I was dealing before they tracked down Kandi, he shared with me that she had received an offer of $60k for the car sight unseen.

I'll have to remember that "cross your fingers behind your back" trick. Let's hug it out shall we? ;)

I think the $60k+ number was edited out of Kandi's first post for some reason. I don't think that was attributed to you. You make some good points too. I just thought your name-calling was uncalled for. Simply my opinion and doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. I'm still trying to figure out why the threads were merged. Just because they are about the same car? Again, just my opinion. :)
