Wrong line maybe, but his speed is what got him. My guess is he either forgot the course and came in way, way too hot or had brake failure. From the video, it looks like it's clear that a sharp left is coming up and he has ample room to brake for it. He either didn't think he needed to brake because he thought he knew the course, or he braked and nothing happened. I can't see him trying to rail around that corner at 70 in an unproven $2m concept car - he seems a little more sensible than that.

Having driven a mere tesla in ludicrous mode I imagine the accleration of an electric "supercar" can probably get ahead of the driver quickly

Compared to prior shots looks like he out acclerated himself. Add to that a heavy car and a corner.

I agree...without the audible feedback of combustion reminding you how fast you're going, I bet that's exactly what happened.

Ecars are a force to be respected and Richard is a stellar guy struck by odds IMO. He is playing the odds more than most of us due to his career choice. Its a when and not if situation. I agree with his wife that he should put his award on a shelf and enjoy what he has accomplished. But I hope he does not stop entertaining me as a fan. Rock on Rich!

Poor Richard really has suffered more than his share of crash injuries. Wishing him a speedy recovery but he should use the time off to think about why he crashes so much. I love rh but there are plenty of hard driving journos who stay safe.

Great opportunity to put this in his science program about actions and reactions. " centrifical force acts sideway on the car to push it out. Gravity acts on the car to push it down. When the two are acting together and there is a lateral obstruction ,the moment of inertia with start to roll the car over. then..."

Looked like he was too far to the left in the first fast right hander, the back started to slide and he over corrected it and it started to slide the other way...which then left him with limited time to straight line it to brake.. kind of ran out of talent ...glad he is basically ok ,top bloke!

A minor gripe (but I'm a physics teacher)...there is no centrifugal force pushing the car out. Centrifugal force is really a fictitious concept to explain inertia (Newton's first law). That is, the tendency for something to want to keep going in the direction it is already going. G forces generated by a car reflect the car's ability to turn (tires, suspension, etc.). When the turning ability is compromised or exceeded, the car continues in the same direction it is traveling...it doesn't go "out."

I was wondering when someone was going to respond to the centrifugal force malarkey. But, perhaps "centrifical force," as opposed to "centrifugal force," is some new discovery made at the Large Hadron Collider? ;)
